Iman Vellani returned as Ms. Marvel in the recent MCU release The Marvels. The film saw the coming together of the characters of her character with Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau. The dynamic between the three characters proved to be one of the highlights of the film, and Vellani’s delightful performance was also appreciated by fans.
While the film showed the varied powers between the characters and how they creatively use them to defeat Dar-Benn, Ms. Marvel’s bangles and the mechanics of their powers haven’t been clearly explained. One instance even negates the importance of the bangles and this has become a giant plothole for the character.
The Conundrum Behind Ms. Marvel’s Bangles and Her Powers Needs More Explaining
Iman Vellani‘s Ms. Marvel was introduced into the MCU through her own show where her origins story and how she got her powers were shown. It was indicated that the bangles (or Quantum Bands) that her grandmother gave her were the source of an incredible power where one could control photonic energy.
But in The Marvels, there is one specific scene where she is Kamala uses her embiggened hand to grab Captain Marvel and pull her into the spaceship without the use of her bangles. This has created a lot of confusion among fans who have started to question the purpose of the bangles if any.
The fact that Kamala was revealed to be a mutant explains her ability to manifest such powers. But the MCU still continues to make the bangles a core part of the character. The makers need to start explaining the dichotomy and the relationship between the bangles and her powers in a potential season 2 or her future MCU appearances.

Iman Vellani Says She Has Nothing to Do with The Marvels Being a Flop
Imsn Vellani’s Ms. Marvel returned in the Brie Larson-led The Marvels recently. The film, unfortunately, has become the first box office flop of the MCU, only managing to earn $188 million (according to Box Office Mojo) against a $274 million budget till now. Vellani addressed the situation in a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment.
Vellani talked about the underwhelming opening weekend for the film and claimed that it was something she had nothing to do with it as it was not in her control. She also emphasized that she personally loved the film. She said,
“I don’t want to focus on something that’s not even in my control, because what’s the point? That’s for Bob Iger. “[The box office] has nothing to do with me. I’m happy with the finished product, and the people that I care about enjoyed the film.
The MCU has never faced such a failure and it seems now they have started to take things more seriously and have delayed everything to put more work and care into their upcoming projects. With Deadpool 3 being the only MCU release next year, fans hope that the franchise returns to its glory days with their upcoming works.
