Iman Vellani is known around the world for portraying the role of Ms. Marvel in the MCU. The actress has recently found herself in the spotlight with her recent comments on how Marvel Studios can regain the hype after Iron Man’s death in Avengers: Endgame.
In these comments, the actress also talked about how starring in a Marvel movie has ruined superhero movies for her. Stating that working on the sets humanized the heroes, Iman Vellani said that her experience is “like kind of ruined”.
Marvel Has Ruined Superhero Movies For Iman Vellani
Much like Tom Holland, Iman Vellani was also a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe before she joined the movies. Portraying the role of Ms. Marvel in the 2022 series Ms. Marvel, the actress became a permanent in the universe.
Recently starring alongside Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris, Vellani appeared in the 2023 movie The Marvels. Although the movie seems a failure, the actress talked about how Marvel needs to change some things. Talking to The Direct, Iman Vellani talked about how superhero movies are ruined for Vellani due to her starring in Marvel movies.
“I can’t watch these movies or shows the same way. It’s just like, I know when things are green screen now, I know when, like, how they film certain fight scenes and stuff. So I’ve gotten to meet a lot of really cool people. Yes, it’s like kind of ruined.”
As the interview progressed, the actress talked about how a movie isn’t defined by its commercial success but rather by how a viewer feels after watching the movie.
Iman Vellani Doesn’t Believe In The Commercial Success of A Movie
Coincidentally, the interview was conducted right after the average box office earnings of The Marvels. Talking about the commercial successes of a movie and what defines a good movie, the actress believes that it’s all about how she feels after she has seen the movie.
“And the commercial success honestly doesn’t determine the enjoyment of a film for me. Like I judge a movie by the feeling it left me with. And yeah, I do want to leave a movie feeling a little lighter and a little happier, and I hope the audience does, too.”
Despite the on-screen presence of Iman Vellani, Brie Larson, and Teyonah Parris in the 2023 film, The Marvels failed to make it big. Receiving a rating of 6/10 on IMDB and 61% on Rotten Tomatoes, the 2023 film is currently screening in select theaters across the world.
