Why did Brie Larson think of rejecting Captain Marvel?

Having enjoyed the limelight from a significantly young age, the actress was unsure if she should join such a big franchise.
In the book, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios (via /Film), it is revealed that Larson had faced difficulty finding her identity after playing such varying roles from a young age- “My identity was tangled up in the parts that I had played since I was a child.” She also added:
“I realized that if you’ve been acting since you were seven, there are a lot of stories inside you that are not actually yours. It’s a blessing to play all these different characters, but it’s also confusing. And overwhelming.”
Despite the prevailing hesitation, Brie Larson ultimately decided to play the lead in Captain Marvel. The film went on to earn over a billion dollars at the box office and turn her into the mightiest MCU character. The actress also said to Harper’s Bazaar (via THR) that she was worried that playing such a massive character in the franchise giant would restrict her from doing many things she loved.

Although Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel earned over a billion dollars at the box office, several fans do not like the character for several reasons. While some audiences dislike Larson’s political activism, some fans hate the overpowered nature of the Marvel character. It is also to be noted that Captain Marvel was also very bad as a film. It also led to several fans hating the character.
The impact of the audience’s hate towards the character was also seen in the reception to its sequel, The Marvels. The latest film ended its theatrical run at a mere $206 million. It became the lowest-grossing Marvel flick. However, even after such a performance, Brie Larson said to Entertainment Tonight that there is more to her MCU character.
“I don’t want Marvel to come for me, but there is something. There is definitely something to answer your question that I would want to say, but I am not going to do so.”
Earlier, Brie Larson was spotted talking about the backlash to her character. She expressed disappointment and questioned her fans if they wanted to see her back in the MCU. On the other hand, some rumors also stated that she might bid farewell to the MCU following Avengers: Secret Wars, which is slated to give a soft reboot to the MCU.
