Netflix has acquired the global rights to an upcoming movie based on Sherlock Holmes’s sister, Enola Holmes. The film will star Stranger Things star, Millie Bobby Brown. Brown will be playing the legendary detective Holmes’s younger sister in the movie to be released by Netflix globally except for China.

The plot of the story would focus on Enola Holmes, the young sister of brothers Sherlock and Mycroft. Enola is a gifted child in her own right and often outsmarts her genius brothers. However, on her 16th birthday, her mother suddenly disappears from their house. After seeking help from her brothers, Enola decides to take the matter into her own hands. She flees away to London to find her mother. However, things are way different than what she had expected. The young sleuth must elude her two brothers, cope with murderous villains on the run, and the kidnapping of a young nobleman, all while piecing together clues to her mother’s sudden disappearance.

Henry Cavill will play the role of Sherlock Holmes in the movie

Harry Bradbeer, the Emmy winning director, will be behind the camera for the movie. He has previously worked on the highly acclaimed shows Fleabag and Killing Eve. Jack Thorne is writing the movie’s script. Moreover, Superman actor Henry Cavill will portray the role of Sherlock Holmes. Joining him and Brown in the cast would be Helena Bonham Carter and Adeel Akhtar, among others. Cavill would be playing the role of Holmes for the first time. Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr had earlier played the detective’s role in two movies of the same name.

Interestingly, Netflix is looking forward to a possible movie franchise based on the six-book series The Enola Holmes Mysteries featuring Sherlock Holmes’s child sister. The books were written by Nancy Springer, who is a recipient of the Edgar Award. Legendary Entertainment has produced the upcoming Enola Holmes movie.
