One of the highly anticipated titles of last year, Starfield opened up to record sales and concurrent players on Steam only to be marred by review-bombers and genuinely bad reviews. The game for the most part was a successful title by Bethesda but still ended up winning none of the awards it was nominated for at last year’s The Game Awards.

Players haven’t completely ditched the game yet as gamers are now finding new ways to enjoy the title using mods. One of those new mods allows players to become freelance ship designers and includes a new quest system, among several other features.

This Mod Makes Playing Starfield Interesting Again

Starfield has been criticized for its lackluster exploration, gameplay, characters with dead eyes, and several other reasons. All of this has led to a decline in the number of gamers playing the big-budget game over the past few months.

A new mod named Astroneer has now caught the interest of several Starfield gamers, especially those who enjoyed building ships in the game. It’s an ambitious mod created by a renowned modder, Jeremy, popularly known by his ID CodeGangsta.

The mod will see a new Mission Board added to the game which will let players take on brand-new missions from a company called Atlas Astronautics. The mission board will give players contracts to build thematic ships. These contracts will each specify a minimum cargo hold, specific vessel, minimum engine power, minimum fuel, maximum mass, and the required cargo bay.

Players can get a variety of contracts from the mission board, each of which will be specific to different Explorers, Fighters, Luxury ships, Interceptors, and Haulers. The mod even has a new NPC character named Aria Collins from Atlas Astronautics. Collins will be a hands-on ship designer who will assist the player in projects with her expertise.

Building ships with Collins allows players to add modules at no extra cost. The only drawback is that Collins will have limited modules for players to use initially but as more ships are built, more modules become available.

Another interesting feature is that players can encounter ships they created in space and choose to either hail them, steal them, or “engage in a little space piracy“.

Other Features and Installing the Mod in Starfield

Starfield gamers who love to build ships will love this mod that comes with free modules.

There’s also a new progression system included with the mod. This will let players earn even more XP, Credits, and salvage resources from completed jobs, which would ideally be after every ship that’s built completely.

Installing the mod isn’t as difficult either, as it’s free to download from the popular NexusMods website. Once downloaded, the files need to be added to the Starfield installation folder and follow the instructions as mentioned on the mod page.

There are other lesser-known mods for Starfield too, including one that takes away any wait times while exploring the galaxy and another improved food mod that adds plates to the game. The mod is still in its beta stage, as mentioned on the NexusMods website, so there could still be stability issues.

Mods have been known to keep games alive and add more elements to the game and until a new DLC arrives for Starfield, which isn’t known to be coming any time soon, mods like these will keep the game interesting.
