The two Golden Sun titles are finally on their way for the Nintendo Switch. The series of games has seen a lot of acclaim and popularity among gamers who were around at the time of consoles like Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance.
Nintendo itself has published the titles, which have been developed by Camelot Software Planning, a studio that has also worked with publishers like Sega and Sony Interactive Entertainment. Apart from Golden Sun, the developer studio has also worked on titles based on the Mario IP.
The first two games in the iconic Golden Sun franchise have made their way to Nintendo Switch and will soon be available on the console as parts of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription. Fans reacted to the news as they are happy that the titles will now be available to play on Nintendo’s latest console.
Golden Sun games confirmed for Nintendo Switch in an official announcement from Nintendo America
Nintendo America took to Twitter to post the news that fans of the classic Golden Sun series of role-playing video games have very well received. The tweet was posted. On January 12, 2024, and the announcement read:
Two epic adventures dawn… Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age are coming to #NintendoSwitch for #NintendoSwitchOnline + Expansion Pack members on 1/17!
The games feature Isaac, Garet, Ivan, and Mia as playable characters. Various game publications also quote the first as one of the best games ever for Game Boy Advance. The two games can also be found on various lists that list the top 100 games ever made.
The titles still hold the impact and influence as one of the most popular vintage JRPGS. That is mainly because the titles sold close to 1.8 million units combined, making it one of the best-selling Eastern RPG titles ever released.
A press release for the announcement was also shared on some websites regarding the two games. It describes the two titles very well for someone who isn’t aware of them at all. The first game is about the four protagonists trying their level best to ensure their village is saved from the ancient force of Alchemy. The four protagonists also use their magical abilities to keep evil forces at bay.
On their journey, they venture through various landscapes such as towns, caverns, and dungeons and have to solve puzzles that test their intellect. Along the way, they are helped by various creatures. The sequel lets players play as the antagonist of the first title. The former antagonist, now a playable character, is on a quest to let people know that Alchemy is intended to save the world of Isaac and company instead of destroying it.
Apart from having the single-player content of the title, which one expects with the title, their games may also support multiplayer. Also, while the news of the title’s release isn’t shocking, considering how Nintendo had already announced that Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles would be coming to the Switch. Also, the series is published by Nintendo itself, so the chances of it appearing as part of Switch Online + Expansion Pack are much higher than other third-party titles.
Regardless, the good news comes a year later, so the fans’ reactions are as wholesome and jovial as they come for a franchise released when many of them started as gamers. The reactions to the Tweet announcing the series were as follows:
My favorite JRG’s
We’ve gotta hand it to you; this is pretty exciting.

OH MY GOD, FINALLY OUR PRAYERS HAVE BEEN HEARD!!!!
One of my most influential, childhood games to me. Right beside FF7 and Tales of Symphonia. I’m so glad to see this getting some love!
One thing that Nintendo always gets right is the library it offers to users who purchase its consoles. While the company’s consoles may not offer the most technically advanced specifications and the most modern-looking titles, there is a charm that is almost impossible to compete with. This stands for both modern and vintage titles; more than that, the ability to experience all that on the go makes the Nintendo Switch the most unique handheld in the current market.
