As Lara Croft topped the list of 20 most iconic video game characters, Mario surprisingly got pushed down to second place. Therefore, following this particular craze for video gaming, BAFTA recently hosted a poll to find out which is the most iconic video game character of all time.
In celebration of the 20th BAFTA Games Awards, the academy asked over 4000 players to offer their insight and vote to determine the most iconic video game character of all time. Considering the popularity of Pikachu, Mario, and even Pac-Man, people might believe that either of these few characters will top the list of the 20 most iconic characters of all time. But you will be stunned to know that Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft dominated the competition.
Snatching the number one spot, Lara Croft got crowned as the most iconic video game character of all time. Surpassing the likes of Mario, Kratos, and even Pikachu, the Tomb Raider character became the star of the poll. Pushing Sonic to 4th position and Pac-Man to 6th, the list shoved fan-favorite video games and anime character Pikachu to 12th position.
Fans are Baffled by How Neither Pikachu Nor Mario Could Top the List
Now, we’re not gonna wage a war or anything because Lara Croft is indeed iconic. Debuting back in 1996, as per Nintendo Life, the character quickly became recognizable and even got hailed as one of the most badass game characters. She later made her way into movies, comics, and even novels, so we would say that Lara Croft surely deserved the top shelf.
