A month before AMC’s The Walking Dead premiered, which would skyrocket the Marvel Star’s career to prominence, Jon Bernthal exchanged vows with his decade-long partner Erin Angle. Surprisingly Angle, whom he came across during the 2000s, is the niece of the former WWE Superstar Kurt Angle, which makes Bernthal his nephew-in-law.

While the two have been family since the 2010s, seeing the two being related comes as a shocker for many fans, even to this day.

Although it’s reasonable to see why many were oblivious to this fact, as the two come from entirely different fields, Angle did once express his want to follow in Bernthal’s footsteps and join Marvel.

Kurt Angle’s Many Attempts to Get into the MCU

The superhero genre is no stranger to WWE superstars, with most notable examples involving Dave Bautista’s Drax and John Cena’s Peacemaker. Following this trend,  Angle too once expressed his want to follow in his Ruthless Aggression era peers’ footsteps. Speaking on The Kurt Angle Show podcast, Angle claimed he has attempted multiple times to get his footing in the MCU, revealing that he even ended up contacting Kevin Feige, courtesy of his nephew-in-law.

Considering Bernthal was already associated with Marvel, thanks to his Netflix show The Punisher, the Olympian champion succeeded in his quest to fetch Feige’s information. But despite reaching out to him, unfortunately, things didn’t go the former WWE icon’s way.

“I’ve tried many times. It’s not that easy. I ended up getting [Kevin Feige’s] contact information. I reached out to him and told him that I’d be interested in doing a Marvel movie, and he actually responded to me, but nothing ever came of it. I got it from my nephew-in-law, Jon Bernthal. He actually gave me his contact information. So I talked to him, but unfortunately, nothing has occurred since then.”

Keeping in mind that Angle is no stranger to acting, as he starred alongside Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton in 2011’s Warrior, having him star in an MCU flick doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

Warrior is available to stream on Netflix.
