It was back in 2022 at the San Diego Comic Con that Marvel Studios President Kevin Fiege announced Daredevil: Born Again. Starring Charlie Cox in the lead role, the Disney+ show was reported to be a reboot of the Netflix series. Since then, the show has been through more than enough ups and dows, with SAG-AFTRA strikes playing a major part.

The show also faced major rewrites, as the initial plan for the show did not sut well with many people involved. And a recent report revealed that actor Jon Bernthal, who played The Punisher in the Netflix series, and is set to reprise the same in the Disney+ show, initially refused to be a part of Daredevil: Born Again.

Jon Bernthal Initially Refused Daredevil: Born Again

Actor Jon Bernthal played Frank Castle/ The Punisher in the Defenders universe on Netflix. He was first introduced as the anti-hero in Netflix’s Daredevil but soon received his own show, The Punisher, because of the popularity of his character. His portrayal of Castle was immensly praised by critics and fans alike, and it was upsetting for all when Netflix had to scrap the Defenders universe after Marvel Studios regained the rights to all its characters.

Recently, X user Cameron Silas tweeted that in a conversation with Bernthal, the actor revealed that when he was first approached for Born Again, he “hated what they were doing with DD before the whole rewrite.” He refused to be a part of it “over and over again,” until a draft was presented that was to his satisfaction. After the rewrites, the actor finally agreed for a “small part” in the Disney+ show, and now fans will get to see him play The Punisher once again.

Who All Are Returning For Daredevil: Born Again?

The Charlie Cox led Disney+ show faced many ups and downs before finally beginning to take shape. Initially, other than Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, none of the other actors who were part of the Netflix show were supposed to return for the reboot. But given how successful the show was and how much fans wanted to have the whole cast back for the Disney+ show, plans soon changed.

Now, along with Jon Bernthal returning as The Punisher, Daredevil: Born Again will also see the return of Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, and Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter/ Bullseye. The show will also see some changes in the form of Sandrine Holt playing Vanessa Fisk, Wilson Fisk’s wife. The character was previously played by Ayelet Zurer in the Netflix show. The show will also have some new characters in the mix, and fans are waiting with anticipation to see how it all unfolds.
