For many years, fans have been supporting the idea of Jon Hamm’s introduction in the MCU as a potential villain. In 21st Century Fox’s X-Men movies, Hamm was expected to appear as Mister Sinister, however, the rights went to Disney and Hamm never got his chance.
Fast forward to today, Hamm has expressed interest in playing Doctor Doom or Mister Sinister in the Marvel Cinematic universe. It has been confirmed that an X-Men movie set in the MCU is currently in the works, so there are chances that Hamm will get hired by Marvel. Many iterations of Mister Sinister have appeared in the comics over the years but fans never got a live-action version of the character.
Jon Hamm is interested in playing Mister Sinister
Recently Jon Hamm appeared for an interview with ScreenRant and acknowledged the rumors regarding his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Doctor Doom or Mister Sinister,
“I don’t know. Those decisions get made at such a high level at this point, definitely above my pay grade. I would love to. I’ve been a fan of Marvel Comics and comics in general since I was probably single digits. I think there are tons of stories that I’m familiar with, at least, that are still out there to be told,” adding, “Hopefully, whatever their plans are, they include me. But if not, I know that they have a pretty deep bench of folks that are ready to be a part of those stories. There are certainly a lot of stories in the X-Men world to be told. Fantastic Four as well, [like] Doctor Doom. There are so many great things out there. But yeah, I hope I get a chance. Who knows?”
With a Fantastic Four movie and X-Men movie set in the MCU in the works, there are chances of Hamm’s appearance as one of these fan-favorite villains.
Jon Hamm lost his chance to play Mister Sinister in 21st Century Fox’s X-Men movies
Mister Sinister / Nathaniel Essex has been a central character in the comics for a long time. In the end credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse, Nathaniel Essex’s company, Essex Corporation makes an appearance, collecting DNA from Weapon X after the X-Men escape from William Stryker’s facility. At the time, Jon Hamm was reportedly hired to play the role but 21st Century Fox then sold the rights to Walt Disney.
On the other hand, many iterations of Doctor Doom have been showcased on the big screen over the years but the character will be soon integrated into the MCU, hopefully in the upcoming 2024 movie, Fantastic Four. Hamm is a talented star and the actor would certainly give the fans one of the best versions of these characters.
