Helldivers 2 is a massive triumph for Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arrowhead Game Studios. The ambitious multiplayer title was a great attempt to dive into the live-service multiplayer space but it wasn’t PlayStation’s biggest exclusive yet.
New reports have shown that The Last of Us Part 2 is the 4th most downloaded game on the PS Store. Despite all the backlashes and the video game’s age, it is still visible to the public eye due to its sheer quality.
The Last of Us Part 2 Is One-Upping Helldivers 2
Naughty Dog is known for developing unique and powerful linear storylines with the team’s innovative nature and its recent project has divided the gaming community down to the core. Depending on where a player stands, the game is seen as one of the greatest stories ever told or the ultimate betrayal.
In a new document it is revealed that The Last of Us Part II is the 4th most downloaded PS exclusive on the PlayStation Store.
It generated over $240M of revenue on the PS Store. This makes it the 3rd most successful PlayStation title of all time in terms of earnings. pic.twitter.com/REJo2bksDu

However, recent data has shown that the amount of digital downloads is indicating the game is massive success despite the rough development history and rocky launch. It wasn’t long ago when the gaming community was praising the game for the wrong reasons like the advanced gore system.
Video games can be decisive and not every game can appeal to all audiences, Arrowhead Studios found success with multiplayer gaming and Naughty Dog is still going strong with its linear formula and PlayStation has them both at its disposal. Perhaps the survival-horror game can also steal the thunder of the live-service game from PC users with an unofficial but imminent port.
Helldivers 2 Can Match the Success of the Last of Us Part 2
Great games are inspired by older great games, the community of Arrowhead Game Studios is always doing its part to share some ideas and suggest concepts from previous games that can be applied to what is present now.
Players are sharing mission ideas from Xbox’s Gears of War 2 for PlayStation’s hottest multiplayer game which can be ironic but also beneficial. There have been a lot of live-service games in recent history and it turns out that PlayStation’s attempt at the genre is not all that universally praised as it turned out to be.
Bethesda Game Studios’ Fallout 76 has already been crowned long ago and the recent emergence of the live-action series has caused a surge of an increasing player count from both returning players and a new audience.
PlayStation is already dominating the competition and has most of the areas covered, from single-player games to multiplayer, Sony has made it a priority to check all the boxes. It would still be a dream come true for Arrowhead Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt to see his work stand alongside the great PlayStation lineup of exclusives, perhaps one day it might.
Helldivers 2 is fairly new with a strong community and The Last of Us Part 2 may not be for everyone, it is wrong to undermine the game’s quality and message. Are you a fan of diverse PlayStation games? Let us know in the comments section below!
