The last star in the legacy of Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball Daima, has finally confirmed the release window of the anime series with a new trailer that has given some new perspective to the narrative of the series. And while the series has excelled in terms of animation, it might have dropped the ball with the storyline.

This speculation comes from the lukewarm reception that the trailer has gotten since its release. The major reason why the final work of Akira Toriyama is not loved by the fans is the use of the guns that have been brought back once again within the Dragon Ball narrative. The problem with using, or bringing back, guns is that it does not have an effect on Goku.

This fact has been pretty established since the beginning of the series in 1984, which is why fans believe that it may decrease the excitement of fights and battles in the series, which is not at all good for Dragon Ball Daima.

The Concept of Guns in Dragon Ball Daima

When the enemies are gods and aliens from different universes, guns are not proven to be very useful. This understanding came very late in Dragon Ball, as initially, the human characters in the series used the weapon a lot. However, they did not have much impact on the story and the major characters like Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, etc.

Despite it becoming a common understanding, Dragon Ball Daima has brought back the concept of guns, as seen in the trailer for the series. Goku is immune to guns so this seems unnecessary.

But the only factor that has changed is that the gun is used by what seems to be an alien character; thus, they do not use traditional bullets but lasers that might be able to harm other characters.

Although the trailer has no narration and every conversation between the characters has been muted to keep the storyline a mystery, But by the looks of it, the alien character who is using the gun seems to be an antagonistic character. So there is a good chance he might not be powerful enough to fight against Goku and other major Dragon Ball characters.

Fans Might Not Be Happy With Akira Toriyama’s Last Project

Dragon Ball has always taken pride in portraying brilliant combat and action sequences that sometimes hold more importance than the narrative. Although fans were fine with Goku and other characters shrinking into kids, they do not like the guns coming back to the series as it further downgrades the battle scenes.

Dragon Ball supporters were too excited for the series to get a release window, and now that it has, this excitement seems to have turned into disappointment.

This is why, when the trailer was shared on X, fans shared their distressed opinions about the guns and the battle sequences overall.

The last Akira Toriyama series is scheduled to be released in October 2024, and while fans are not satisfied with the battle scenes, especially with the use of guns, there is still a chance for Dragon Ball Daima to redeem itself with a decent storyline that might be able to once again recover the trust from fans.
