Last year, Ted and Shooter actor Mark Wahlberg made a promise to a legendary boxer to make a biopic on him. Wahlberg was expected either to star in the film or to produce it. After several months, fans may wonder what might happened to the project.
Last year in April, Wahlberg encountered former boxer Julio Cesar Chavez in Las Vegas after the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight at T-Mobile Arena. While all the cameras and eyes were on the event, Wahlberg and Chavez were caught in greeting each other.
Julio Cesar Chavez Asked Mark Wahlberg to Produced a Biopic On Him
After the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight, Julio Cesar Chavez and Mark Wahlberg met with each other. Mario Lopez served as the interpreter throughout the conversation between the legendary duo. After hugging several times and with an exchange of pleasantries Chavez asked Wahlberg to portray his character in a biopic.
While Chavez believed Wahlberg would be perfect to depict his life on screen, the actor was not entirely sure right at the spot but he was not going to let the legendary boxer down. So, he asked Chavez if he could produce the potential project, “Oh my God, can I produce it? Absolutely.” Chavez had no complaints, he agreed to Wahlberg’s proposal with open arms.
Chavez has lived a life that deserves an acute cinematic representation. If Wahlberg ever considers playing the role, he would have to be in great shape. Not a task to challenge the actor as he has a fair share of experience with his jacked physique for several of his previous movies.
What Happened to the Project?
Fans can ditch the idea of watching Wahlberg as Chavez in a potential project in Hollywood, not because of the physical challenges or the dedication to the role would entail but because the actor will not be a match to meet the ethnic features of the boxer. Still, there is always room for him to be involved in the project as the Instant Family star promised Chavez to produce the project.
However, after their meeting, no reports of the project ever surfaced. There has not been any development process for the project. Also, Wahlberg’s involvement with the boxer was never highlighted in the frontline reports. So, it is fair to assume that even if the 52-year-old decides to join the potential project, it will not happen anytime soon. Chavez’s devout fans can watch the Telemundo biopic series based on the legend entitled El César with two seasons.
Whalberg recently appeared in Simon Cellan Jones’ action comedy, The Family Plan for Apple TV+. The actor is also set to appear alongside Halle Berry in Julian Farino-directed Netflix action thriller The Union.
The Union will hit Netflix on Aug. 16, 2024.
