Warner Bros’ upcoming musical film Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet, is projected to make $35 million to $40 million on its opening weekend. Fans of the Call Me By Your Name star will definitely occupy theater seats, with women below 25 years of age as the target audience.
Chalamet’s Wonka will be the origin story of the famous character popularized by Johnny Depp in his 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The movie is anticipated to evoke nostalgia from fans who loved Depp’s portrayal.

Aquaman 2 Is Expected To Beat Timothée Chalamet’s Wonka On Opening Weekend Numbers
In his interview with Vogue magazine, French actor Timothée Chalamet shared what drew him in to join the franchise. He admitted it was the simple joy of making people happy in the midst of all the crises in the world. He stated:
“To work on something that will have an uncynical young audience, that was just a big joy. That’s why I was drawn to it. In a time and climate of intense political rhetoric, when there’s so much bad news all the time, this is hopefully going to be a piece of chocolate. This is a Willy that’s full of joy and hope and desire to become the greatest chocolatier.”
Despite Chalamet’s popularity among young adult viewers, Wonka is tracking to earn less than Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s projected opening weekend. The Jason Momoa-led film is looking at $32 million to $42 million on its big screen debut.
Many fans have speculated that Amber Heard’s involvement in the movie would repulse the audience, even though director James Wan has confirmed that her role has been pared down. On the other hand, Johnny Depp’s connection with Chalamet’s Wonka did not influence the movie’s projection and is still expected to make less than Aquaman 2.
