Exciting updates are emerging about Charlie Cox’s Daredevil: Born Again, but what’s more interesting are the speculations surrounding the series. The series was overhauled after Marvel executives were not impressed with the initial storyline, leading to the firing of several crew members. One of the crucial characters from the Netflix version is now being considered as the perfect fit to become MCU’s street-level Nick Fury.
Fans might remember from the golden age of MCU that Samuel L. Jackson’s character appeared in every other movie. While forming the Avengers was his primary goal, many saw Fury as the connecting link between these standalone stories of Earth’s mightiest superheroes.
This Daredevil: Born Again Character Could Be Positioned As The Street Level Nick Fury
The BTS videos from Daredevil: Born Again were heartwarming, as fans saw the reunion of the original trio from Netflix’s version. Besides Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock / Daredevil, Elden Henson‘s Foggy Nelson and Deborah Ann Woll‘s Karen Page will feature prominently in the new MCU series. As the Nelson, Murdock & Page law firm evolves into the famous defender of the underprivileged, Foggy Nelson may have a more significant role in bridging connections within the street-level MCU.
When Matt Murdock first appeared in the MCU to defend Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, many caught on to the possibility of Murdock becoming a link between these superheroes. However, the problem with that theory was that Murdock himself was a busy superhero dealing with crime in Hell’s Kitchen. Moreover, fans were unsure about Elden Henson’s return to the MCU at that time.
With Nelson in the mix, he could potentially feature in more street-level projects within the MCU as an attorney and recruiter for these heroes. Unlike Henson’s Nelson, the comic book version eventually takes the District Attorney position and becomes more of a political person. Nick Fury, at one point in the comics, even offers Nelson a position on the Board of Directors of S.H.I.E.L.D. This storyline alone suggests that Nelson can grow beyond just providing comic relief in the live-action Daredevil project.
For a decade, Nick Fury has been the guy who appeared in the climax or post-credits scene in the MCU. Samuel L. Jackson has made a total of eleven appearances in the MCU. For Nelson to become the Fury of the Streets, he might need a lot of character development or make nearly as many appearances as the man himself.
Fun Fact: Nick Fury Hates Foggy Nelson In Daredevil
Samuel L. Jackson may not be a fan of the ‘Foggy Nelson becoming a street-level Nick Fury’ theory. In fact, Jackson has expressed his feelings about the character in an older tweet. In 2016, after watching the second season of Daredevil, The Hateful Eight actor posted that he wouldn’t be mad if Elden Henson’s character got “Red Weddinged”, referring to the brutal Game of Thrones episode.
Just finished @Daredevil season2, Awesome! But… If Foggy got Red Weddinged, I wouldn't be mad!!

It is unclear what aspect of the lovable Foggy Nelson in Season 2 rubbed off on The Negotiator actor. Fans can only hope that Nelson doesn’t cross paths with Nick Fury at any point in the MCU, or worse, take him on as a client. After Daredevil: Born Again, fans can expect to see Henson in Spider-Man 4 as rumors are already circulating about Charlie Cox’s and Vincent D’Onofrio‘s potential appearance in the film.
Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2025, while the previous three seasons are available on the platform.
