The Batman from Matt Reeves, starring Robert Pattinson, delivered a great take on Batman, so much so that it has been allowed to continue as James Gunn breaks new ground with the DCU. The Reeves-Verse will be the part of Elsewolrds that the new DCU will keep alive under the creative visions of James Gunn.

The storyline that was introduced in The Batman grounded the character pretty thoroughly. This has set the expectations for the character and the story high in the second instalment of the series, and there seems to be a perfect story that the franchise could adopt for itself.

The Batman- Part II could adapt Batman: The Long Halloween

Batman: The Long Halloween is one the most critically acclaimed stories that follows the Bat of Gotham as he deals with a mysterious new killer who commits crimes on holidays every month. Not only does this storyline introduce Batman in his early years, but it also introduces a host of villains that could go on and make the world of Reeve-Verse a little more lived in.

Further, the story also focuses on a fight between the crime families of Gotham, giving the story a little more gravitas to play with. Given that the series was a source of inspiration for Reeves’ The Batman and Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, it would be the perfect to story to adapt wholesale for The Batman-Part II.

While The Batman- Part II is something fans have been waiting for with bated breath, it seems it will be a while before the film makes its debut on the big screen. James Gunn has allegedly said that he has heard a pitch for the film but that there is no script yet for the feature. This means that the film can no way be in production before the middle of 2024, putting the film’s release towards at least late 2025, if not 2026.

While James Gunn gears up for the release of his DCU in 2025, the first Chapter of which is labelled Gods and Monsters, Gunn will also be in charge of other shows and films that will work under the DC brand but not be connected to his shared universe. This will include everything that DC is doing right now that is pleasing fans, such as the Harley Quinn animated series. Perhaps, once the DCEU takes off, the superhero genre will break the alleged superhero fatigue that has seized the industry at large.
