A developer who worked on GTA San Andreas revealed why some planes would crash out of nowhere

Every new entry, such as Grand Theft Auto, revolutionized the sandbox; GTA San Andreas was no exception. These games have some code errors that players are used to; they are not big or annoying, and some of them are even hilarious. In San Andreas, this happened with the planes; many players have shared how planes crash and burn out of nowhere. Thanks to a former developer, some details about why this happened were clarified.

Obbe Vermeij, a user of X, is a former developer who has contributed to games such as GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, and 4. Vermeij has said why the planes crash randomly on San Andreas; he said that before the plane is created, the code looks for a fly path, but sometimes it appears after the fly path is created, so this causes the plane to crash because it hits an invisible wall. He also mentioned that the planes sometimes lose height immediately after generation.

This developer also tagged some user videos that demonstrated how planes crashed out of nothing. He admitted that planes were doomed to crash just for these reasons; there was no possibility of this changing.

This could also happen when players pilot planes that crash into invisible walls. Some planes do not have enough height to completely lift off, which means that a collision is inevitable and unavoidable.

Players responded to this by sharing evidence of the crashing planes and chuckling at the unresolved design error. Fans of GTA San Andreas have no problem with this error, and they continue to play and enjoy the game without any trouble. Even this developer appreciated how players had encountered these crashing planes and made jokes about them. The community is really happy with this kind of bug, which did not affect gameplay at all.

Fans of this saga are very excited about the next iteration of the game, GTA 6, which, according to Rockstar Games, will be available sometime in 2025. The game will have two protagonists and will be in the studio version of Miami, already known by players as Vice City, one of the most praised games in the franchise. This will be the first game in the franchise in more than 10 years. GTA 5 was released on three generations of consoles.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
