As per the storyline, Grillo’s character was merely an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. named Brock Rumlow, who eventually became Captain America’s foe Crossbones, after his battle with Sam Wilson, which ended with the Triskelion collapsing on him and causing him to become bloodthirsty and vengeful.

Playing a small part in the casting, Russo admitted forwarding the mail to the intended recipient.
