The power scale of One Piece is measured in two different aspects. One is the strength of the Devil Fruits, and the other is the ability to use different types of Haki. In terms of Haki, nothing can be compared to the Color of the Supreme King, also known as the Conqueror’s Haki, and it is currently the strongest ability in the series.

As the series has reached its final saga, the race for the One Piece treasure has flushed out all the unworthy pirates. The only ones left are the ones who either possess the Color of the Supreme King or can stand up to this mysterious ability. While no one knows its origin or how it works, the most possible explanation about the Conqueror’s Haki was given by a One Piece theory that correlates it to death.

According to the theory, the only characters who can unlock Conqueror’s Haki are the ones who can beat death. There have been multiple pieces of evidence to support this theory, except for one, which actually contradicts it. This aspect involves Jinbe and his brave confrontation with Big Mom, where he beat death but could not unlock Conqueror’s Haki.

One Piece Theory Explains The Real Motivation Needed to Unlock Conqueror’s Haki

A few months ago, u/KingintheNorth212 on Reddit came up with a plausible explanation about Conqueror’s Haki and how it is not something that is inherited but unlocked. However, to unlock Conqueror’s Haki, the characters need to have a brush with death and leave the fear of death behind. This gives them complete control over their willpower.

The fear of death can only be “conquered” when someone believes deeply in their dream or someone else’s dream. Almost every character who can use Conqueror’s Haki in One Piece has battled death at some point and removed the fear of dying from their mind. Be it Luffy, Ace, Zoro, Garp, Rogers, Kaido, etc., all of these characters proved themselves worthy of Conqueror’s Haki.

But the most important part of unlocking Conqueror’s Haki is to remove the fear of death completely from one’s mind, as there are many characters who have faced death but have not been able to unlock the unique ability. Blackbeard being the greatest example of this assumption.

Jinbe is the Only Anomaly for the One Piece Theory

Although the One Piece theory profusely covers every aspect of Conqueror’s Haki with ample evidence, Eiichiro Oda might still need to explain the entire aspect of the mysterious power because of Jinbe. Jinbe is the only character who faced death and even destroyed his fear of death completely but still couldn’t unlock Conqueror’s Haki.

This happened during the Whole Cake Island arc when Jinbe bravely declared his decision to Big Mom about forfeiting the alliance with the Big Mom Pirates and joining Luffy and the Straw Hat crew. In that exact moment, Big Mom was about to take a huge chunk out of Jinbe’s life, and the character was ready to die for his decision.

However, Big Mom could not take a part of Jinbe’s life because he was not afraid of her or his death. This proved that Jinbe beat death and checked all the boxes for becoming a Conqueror’s Haki user, but as of yet, he cannot use the power. Thus, fans require a better and more logical explanation about the Haki ability that is going to determine who becomes the Pirate King in One Piece.
