Oppenheimer was a massive success and a new milestone for filmmaking, from the cast and crew and everyone else who contributed during the production was a recipe for Oscar nominations, and wins but one aspect of any film or television that elevates the story is music and composer Ludwig Göransson deserved the win but upset the gaming community in the process.

Göransson also composed the score for other great films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and even won an Oscar for Black Panther, he later worked on the sequel: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and scored the first two Creed films and his first project with the legendary visionary Christopher Nolan was Tenet, as well for the Star Wars series on Disney+ The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. The talent he possesses is monumental, however the gaming community was offended by his recent victory speech.

There has been a cold rivalry between video games and films, some might say that gaming is the future of story-telling and the similarities between the two media are uncanny, and the invisible line between them has become much blurrier. The composer accepted his award graciously and honored his parents for honing his skills in music but ended it with a jab toward a specific community.

FedUpMajority spoke about the closing remarks of the speech and took offense over this unnecessary comment, and even cited how video games are on par with films in terms of music, and even claimed that they are much better than any work Göransson has made. Perhaps it was a harmless joke in the Oscar winner’s eyes but he greatly underestimated the sensitivity of members of the community.

While his joke is being torn apart, he was indicating that his parents wouldn’t be as supportive if he had gone down the video game route instead of focusing on music in his youth. Göransson’s parents bought him musical instruments like drums and guitars instead of controllers which navigated his career to where he is today.

The Mandalorian Composer Could Have Worked On The Cancelled Star Wars Game

EA and Respawn Entertainment were meant to develop a brand new Star Wars game around the Mandalorian until it was canceled.
EA and Respawn Entertainment were meant to develop a brand new Star Wars game around the Mandalorian until it was canceled.

It was not long ago when a brand new first-person shooter Star Wars game that focuses on a Mandalorian character was meant to be released. The television series was already a success, and the work Respawn has done with their Star Wars Jedi games which were all cinematic masterpieces could have worked for a brand new game, unfortunately, the project was ultimately cancelled leaving developers devastated.

Ludwig Göransson is a talented composer and he deserved the accolades, and the hate he is receiving for a lousy joke is not that deep and it didn’t offend composers for video games in any way. Oppenheimer gained notoriety for making the atomic bomb, Nolan gained the same by telling his story and Gorranson’s work on The Mandalorian made him even more noticeable in that fanbase.
