With Robert Downey Jr. tasting the Oscar glory for his immaculate performance in Oppenheimer, it’s time for his ex-partner Sarah Jessica Parker to shine at the Olivier Awards. Sarah Jessica Parker Earns Herself Best Actress Nod at the Olivier Awards

After earning rave reviews from Theatre critics, with many citing her performance as a revelation, Sarah Jessica Parker has now garnered a nod for Best Actress in the Olivier Awards for Plaza Suite. The 3-act play revolves around a troubled marriage, two childhood sweethearts reuniting after decades, and parents dealing with their daughter, who locks herself in a bathroom on her wedding day. Reflecting on the nature of the decades-old play, Parker said (via BBC):

“I think it’s the portraits of these relationships which are not necessarily going to have to be familiar. There are these illustrations of affection, disappointment, whimsy, chaos, absurdity, that are just kind of universal. Even if it’s not your generation or culturally what you connect to, I think Neil Simon is such a master, such a skilled writer that you don’t have to know it to enjoy it.”

Other Best Actress nominees at the Olivier Awards include Laura Donnelly, Sophie Okonedo, Sheridan Smith, and Sarah Snook.

Sarah Jessica Parker Was Scared to Part Ways With Robert Downey Jr.

It didn’t take long for Robert Downey Jr. and Sarah Jessica Parker to fall for each other after crossing paths at the age of 18. However, their 7-year-long bond was far from smooth following the Iron Man Star’s substance abuse issue, which eventually resulted in their split in 1991. But deciding to part ways with the Oscar-winner was pretty hard for the Hocus Pocus Star, as she feared RDJ would die if she wasn’t there to take care of him.

During her appearance on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, she said:

“You love this person, and you’re afraid they’re going to die if you aren’t there to shore up their base every single solitary day… I just didn’t want him to die. The biggest, hardest choices about those kinds of relationships are feeling brave enough to leave, even if you think they’re going to die.”

But as the story goes, RDJ eventually got himself together and turned his life around in the mid-2000s, and would eventually reconcile things with his ex-girlfriend in the 2010s.

With the Olivier Awards a month away, it’ll be interesting to see if Parker would be able to replicate her ex-partner’s success at the Prestigious Award Ceremony.
