Bandai Namco is set to release the new entry in the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series over a decade since the release of the Tenkaichi Tag Team on PS Portable. The first look of Sparkling Zero has massively resurged the interest in DB games, gaining overall positive comments from fans on social media.

The Budokai Tenkaichi series was primarily created for PlayStation 2 devices. The first installment was released in 2005, and the second and third were released in consecutive years. In 2010, the Tenkaichi Tag Team was a success but was limited to PSPs and didn’t make it to the consoles.

During the Game Awards on December 7, 2023, Bandai Namco dropped the first trailer for Dragon Ball Sparkling Zero. Instantly gaining the attention of fans were the words “A New Budokai Tenkaichi Begins.” The game has the classic Budokai mechanics that made the series famous among PlayStation 2 users and iconic characters from the franchise.

The trailer features Goku and Vegeta battling amidst rocky mountains, throwing punches, and powering up Kamehamehas. Boasting graphics better than its previous installments, the first look of Sparkling Zero has confirmed several characters in the roster, including Cell, Anrdoid 18, Krillin, Frieza, Yamcha, and Jiren.

More iconic villains and heroes from the franchise such as Son Goku and Saiyan Vegeta are expected to return in the series.

According to the official website of the game, “Sparking! ZERO has an incredible number of playable characters, each with signature abilities, transformations, and techniques.” The 3D game will feature planet-razing attacks and earth-shattering abilities characteristic of the previous Budokai titles.
