The last couple of weeks have been filled with rumors that Microsoft is planning to go multi-platform with Xbox-exclusive titles. This was a massive blow to fans who were shocked to know of this, and Phil Spencer promised them that the company would soon provide updates on its business plans.
The company has now announced that a special edition of the Official Xbox Podcast will be held on February 15, and it will be joined by Spencer as well as other executives to address rumors of the company releasing first-party titles on competitive platforms such as PlayStation and more.
Phil Spencer to Join the Official Xbox Podcast for Business Updates
When the rumors of Xbox exclusive titles going multi-platform surfaced, fans were shocked and concerned about it. This led to Spencer assuring the fans that the company is aware of these developments, is planning an event to address all these things, and will share more details on the future of the company.
It has now been announced that the event is coming on February 15 at 12 p.m. PT. The company will reveal its plans via a “special edition” of the Official Podcast, which will feature Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, and Matt Booty. These are the biggest names of the company and will probably answer all the questions from fans and address the rumors about first-party games going multi-platform.
It cannot be said for certain what the event might include, but there have been rumors of games like Hi-Fi Rush, Starfield, Indiana Jones, and many other titles allegedly going to PS5 and Switch, which will surely be spoken about. Moreover, there have also been rumors of Microsoft ditching physical media and even exiting the console market.
Will Microsoft No Longer Make Consoles?
The Xbox consoles, Series X and Series S, have underperformed as compared to the Nintendo Switch and PS5, and with the rumors of Microsoft’s change in strategy, it was also speculated that the company plans to exit the console market, but that doesn’t seem to have happened.
According to a report, Spencer held an internal meeting and assured the employees that the company has no plans to stop making consoles and that the hardware is part of its change in strategy, involving several kinds of devices.
This is a huge relief for gamers who have invested in the company’s consoles as well as for the overall gaming community. Moreover, there was a massive leak last year that revealed Microsoft’s plans involving a mid-generation Series console refresh, slated to be out in 2024, as well as a hybrid next-gen console scheduled to launch in 2028.
So that might still be in the plans, and there might be something about the console refresh, but at the time Spencer said that the plans were “out of date.” What are your thoughts about the upcoming Xbox podcast? What are your expectations from it? Let us know in the comments below.
