Sony is very happy to reveal that the PlayStation 5 has achieved another great milestone for the company regarding sales. After almost four years on the market, the console has exceeded the total sales of the Xbox One with almost 60 million units sold.
There is still a long way to go, especially with the pandemic affecting sales of both major hardware consoles. The investors of the Japanese company are paying attention to the upcoming releases of the console. The brand has also expanded into PCs, and the first-party games are doing well.
Sony Has Sold Almost 60 Million PlayStation 5s and Has Already Exceeded the Xbox One Total Sales
The past console generation was an astonishing win for Sony; the PS4 sold more than 117 units in its entire lifespan. First released in 2013, the hardware nearly doubled the sales of the competition, which had only sold 58 million units. The Xbox One didn’t start the pass generation in the best possible way; it cost $100 more than the PS4 due to the mandatory Kinect, which was not available for separate acquisition.
The PS5 has already exceeded its total sales; this is very impressive, especially considering that not even four years have passed since its release.

The company confirmed that the console has sold almost 60 million units. There is a great distance to go before reaching the PS4 numbers, but the company is not so far from that milestone. PlayStation Studios has many exclusive games planned for the future.
Xbox One Numbers Were Not the Best for Microsoft
Even with these amazing numbers, there is still another company that has sold even more. The Nintendo Switch, the hybrid console, has achieved more than 140 million units in a little bit more than seven years on the market. These numbers are amazing because, in average console generation time, this company has achieved more than the competition—many more in less time.
For Microsoft, the current units sold for the Series X/S are not that good. Combined between both versions of the hardware, there were only 25 million copies.

These numbers are alarming for Microsoft, and that’s one of the main reasons for the recent moves that closed studios. The company doesn’t really know how to improve these numbers, and the Game Pass model is not helping.
Rumors are saying that this year this year will mark the release of the PS5 Pro, especially for the upcoming release of GTA 6. According to rumors, this hardware is nearly three times more powerful than the current console. There are no official details about this possible console. There is no clear indication of what kind of players this powerful console will attract; few games have harvested the real potential of these platforms.
