For many PlayStation fans there are those classic games which still hold a certain amount of nostalgia. The Legacy of Kain series is one franchise that many fans still love to this day, and there is hope that at some point in the not-too-distant future, it will get the modern-day treatment that some other PS1 games have received.

However, one fan is tired of waiting and has taken it upon themselves to remake the amazing title, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, using Unreal Engine 5.  The second in the series, this title was the direct sequel to Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and was a far superior game to that of its predecessor, so it’s no surprise the fan opted for this as their focus piece.

Nearly 30 years on, gamers could revisit Nosgoth, thanks to one fan’s efforts to remake a PlayStation classic.

The game is being remade by fan Ali Aljaber who has posted on his YouTube channel updating fans with the progress of this project. Looking at the most recent entry from January 11th, we can see just how much work has been put in. It looks like a far superior offering to that of the 1999 title, but it still has that old-school gaming feel.

Aljaber confirmed that he had introduced a new locomotion system, which brings in notable features such as flying, climbing, and interactions with boxes and switches. He went further by stating that in the upcoming update, fans can look forward to seeing wandering enemies and magic abilities introduced as well.

The reaction from Legacy of Kain fans has been unreal and the hype for the fan remake of the classic PlayStation game is palatable. Comments on Ali Aljaber’s latest YouTube posting were in awe of the work being put in, and many fans commented that they have waited so long to see a modern-day take on this classic title.

Retro gaming is a massive market and holds a certain amount of nostalgia for gamers of a certain age who remember those classic consoles and title of their youth in fond memories. For those players who traded in their old PlayStation and games back in the day and are now looking to get them back, then it will be substantially more now than it was then.

Perhaps this is why more fans hope their games are remade for current-gen consoles. That old PlayStation game that you remember so fondly from the PS1 days available on a PS5 with up-to-date graphics and gameplay is not that unheard of. We’ve already had Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon remade, so who’s to say we couldn’t see other classics get the modern-day treatment?

Fans of the Legacy of Kain franchise are desperate to see Raziel and Kain in a modern-day remake.

It may be that the Legacy of Kain franchise doesn’t have the same volume of fan base as the aforementioned games. What is clear though, is that those players who have experienced the Ethereal and Physical plains of Nosgoth hold the franchise in high regard, and are desperate for it to be brought into the modern age.

Whilst there doesn’t seem to be any movement on a modern-day remake of the amazing Legacy of Kain series, this fan-made offering using Unreal Engine 5 means fans can experience the closest thing to it. For the many gamers who first experienced this classic series on the PlayStation when it first launched nearly 30 years ago, the prospect of seeing a modern version is just too good to pass up.
