Helldivers 2 is a massive success for Arrowhead Game Studios and PlayStation, the numbers for active players are at an all-time high and their community continues to grow while Xbox is losing faster than it ever did as indicated by a massive decrease in demand for their flagship console. Xbox users have been begging for Helldivers 2 to be ported, and if Sony will not listen to their pleas, they have figured to bite the bullet and jump ship.

Exclusives are there for a good reason, they compensate for the weaker and technologically inferior specs of the rival console but can deliver a great gaming experience. The last generation, despite being a massive improvement from the stock PS4 and the redesigned slim model, the PS4 Pro is still weaker than the Xbox One X, however, it couldn’t run PlayStation exclusive titles, a similar dilemma today.

The war between Xbox and PlayStation users has been waged for almost two decades, and users have been throwing insults and occasional facts that helped their cause. This generation seems to be underwhelming, the PS5 is already in the latter stage of its lifecycle which could mean a system refresh or the successor is coming very soon, but the success of Helldivers 2 is a massive blow to Microsoft as their numbers are dwindling.

Xbox’s first-party titles are nothing compared to the quality of games that developers under the PlayStation Studios umbrella have created in previous console generations. Despite having a much larger portfolio and could acquire any studio like Activision with ease, they simply could not keep up. People prefer to use their consoles to play third-party games because of their superior architecture, but it isn’t enough when users from PC get to play a game that they couldn’t.

Helldivers 2 could be a solution for permanent peace between rival platforms.
Helldivers 2 could be a solution for a permanent peace between rival platforms.

Games are meant to bring people together, not to further separate them. Helldivers 2 managed to bring out the creativity of some players that even the developers of Arrowhead Studios can’t deny their greatness. Perhaps Sony and Microsoft could come to an agreement and trade first-party games, given the rumor that Starfield may come to the PlayStation 5 later this year, maybe they could use that to gain Helldivers 2.

Exclusivity used to be the greatest asset in gaming, regardless of how powerful a machine can be, it is futile without games to play with. PlayStation invested in talent and skill while Xbox focused more on power and both have reaped their benefits but have now entered an era where it became too passive-aggressive towards consumers by being inaccessible. Xbox players are waiting for an announcement of a potential port, but all hope seems lost, and decided to take matters into their own hands by investing in a PS5 instead of an Xbox.

Games can move units and that is an immovable fact, people are willing to spend more just to play a game that is locked to it. The success of Helldivers 2 is a testament that quality is a driving factor that will attract fans even those from a rival platform.
