Recently, there have been a large set of leaks regarding a now-canceled PlayStation game that was being developed by Insomniac Games, and that game would have been a co-op Spider-Man: The Great Web that was intended to be set after the most recent game in the franchise.
Usually, when it comes to a franchise going from solo gameplay to multiplayer, the gaming community would usually frown and become disappointed as these types of plans tend to fail; however, this project seems to have caught the eye of the community as a missed opportunity by Sony and Insomniac Games.
Keep in mind that mild spoilers will be included below regarding Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 open-world quests.
With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility; Clearly, Sony Didn’t Get That Message Regarding the Co-op Spider-Man PlayStation Title
If you are a fan of Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, then you will be aware of the current state of the game’s story and its world setting. Such as one of the games open-world side quests, which tasks the player with searching throughout NYC to find spider-bots that are designed to look like Spider-people from other Spider-Verses.
This helps to lead into the co-op Spider-Man game, as this sadly cancelled title would lean into this story as it would be the main feature within the game that would allow players to join up with each other as they would be from ‘other universes‘.

To add to the awesomeness of this, players would even be able to customize their own Spidey to even look like Spider-people that we haven’t come across in Marvel’s Spider-Man, providing players even more customization options than we already have.
If Sony and Insomniac Games Let This Project Continue, Would It Have Been Worthwhile?
As stated above, not many gamers tend to enjoy seeing their favorite games change from their usual pattern, especially when transferring from single player to multi-player. However, this game would have been the exception, as Insomniac Games would have put in as much effort as they always do in terms of Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise.

There’s ANOTHER trailer😭 pic.twitter.com/UZGYbfl35A
According to a leaked confidential pitch video that was leaked to YouTube, we can already see the amount of confidence Insomniacs Games developers had in the project, as they already began to plan 8 seasons worth of content, along with stories, raids, PVP, and so much more.
If this project was allowed to continue, there would be countless opportunities for it to expand into so many different Spider-Man storylines, especially including the Spider-Verse aspects, which would allow for easy content and locations to expand into without altering the original NYC map too much.
Sadly, this project will never be as Insomniac Games seems focused on removing it, but from what we can see, it would have been an amazing game to play with your friends.
What do you think about this cancelled co-op Spider-Man game? Would you have played this sadly cancelled game? Do you think that this game would have been amazing if it had been released? Let us know in the comments what you think!
