Despite its recent fumbles with the community, 2024 is turning out to be an outstanding year for PlayStation, thanks to the amazing gaming experiences that the platform constantly provides its players with. From Helldivers 2 to Stellar Blade, there’s no shortage of excellent titles on the console, but things have been quiet when it comes to Sony’s first-party studios. What are developers like Naughty Dog or Sucker Punch up to?

Fortunately, it seems like Sony’s gearing up for its PlayStation Showcase, which may be coming sooner than expected.

During an episode of Giant Bombcast, Jeff Grubb, a proven industry insider who has correctly revealed plenty of information related to Sony before its official announcement in the past, was confident that the PlayStation Showcase is taking place this month.

Last month, Xbox announced that it’d be presenting its Games Showcase on June 9, so it’d make sense for Sony to try and take attention away from the competition by holding its own presentation a couple of weeks earlier. Grubb isn’t sure “whether it’s next week or the week after,” but he’s adamant that the event’s happening in May, even if it’s near the month’s end.

The insider reiterated that he wouldn’t be surprised if it takes place as soon as next week, stating that Sony is ready and the PlayStation Showcase “could happen at any moment.” It remains to be seen what the event has in store for the fans, but considering how silent Sony’s first-party studios have been, the Showcase should include huge announcements.

From Rumored Connections With Kendrick Lamar to Potential First-Party Reveals, the Showcase Might Include a Lot

Is Insomniac Games going to reveal any more details about its Marvel adaptations at the event?
Is Insomniac going to share any details about its Marvel adaptations at the event?

The PlayStation Showcase was brought up as Grubb was addressing an industrial crossover rumor that’s been going around. For those uninitiated with hip-hop, two high-profile rappers, Kendrick Lamar and Drake, have been releasing multiple diss tracks aimed at each other.

However, things have seemingly come to a standstill after Drake launched The Heart Part 6, after which Kendrick still hasn’t responded, giving rise to rumors that it may be because of Lamar’s potential connection with the upcoming Sony event.

The rumor about Lamar not launching his diss track as a marketing collaboration with Sony was put aside by Grubb, who doesn’t think that it’s likely to happen. But the PlayStation Showcase is a celebration of the company’s upcoming lineup of games, and its first-party studios, who’ve been laying low, may finally have something substantial for their fanbases.

Who knows, maybe Sucker Punch announces a Ghost of Tsushima sequel, or Naughty Dog reveals what it’s been working on aside from its The Last of Us revamps.

There could also be slight chances of Insomniac Games showcasing fresh content from its adapted Marvel universe, while some more footage or potential release dates for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and the Silent Hill 2 remake might be on the table as well. Sony could even reveal an upgraded version of the PlayStation 5.

But considering that is just speculation for now, what are you looking forward to seeing at the upcoming PlayStation Showcase? Let us know in the comments!
