The recent State of Play has kicked the hornet’s nest and there are still some optimistic fans out there hoping for a sequel. Ross has some strong words about the present leadership that would cast doubt on his vision to be fully realized and be left in the basement of Sony forever.

Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino were recently appointed as the new CEOs of PlayStation and were already pestered with the same questions that their predecessor long evaded. Nishino revealed he was a fan of Bloodborne which gave fans hope for a remaster, but Ross has some strong words about how Hulst views the massive portfolio of Sony which could be the reason why a sequel will most likely never happen.

While the poster was fan-made, Ross clarified that the higher-ups never viewed his zombie game in the same league as other major first-party franchises like Uncharted, Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, and The Last of Us.

The game was released on the PS4 with a messy start plagued with issues that were later remedied through a series of patches and was ported to PC which gained favorable reviews.

It wasn’t enough to convince Sony to permit Bend Studio to pursue its creative vision and they were later mandated to work on a live-service multiplayer game instead of a highly-demanded sequel. The company appears to value review scores more than the request of the community which made it clear where its priorities lie.

Sony Is Snuffing Out Any Hope for a Days Gone 2

It is the end of the road for Days Gone.

John Garvin is the co-director and is far more vocal than Ross. Garvin went off and threw shade at the company for its lack of faith and snuffing out all hope for a continuation. If Sony were to revisit the franchise, Garvin would only return if the company agrees to his terms which is to bring back Ross.

The gaming community took it upon themselves to salvage the franchise by giving the original game a significant visual boost on PC. If Hulst is not considering a sequel, perhaps a remaster for the PlayStation 5 will be a sufficient response and it is already a common practice that has been applied to other first-party games.

It is bizarre to see businessmen use review scores as a metric to gauge success and not take the community feedback into account. Perhaps Sony is blind to the franchise’s potential and refuses to acknowledge the demand to follow up on the cliffhanger ending.

It is unfortunate to see game developers not being able to fully recognize their vision. Ross and Garvin are given the short end of the stick.
