One either dies a hero or lives long enough to become a villain. PlayStation was having another extraordinary year with various titles, only for one decision to blow back in its face. Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 became the crown jewel for Sony. Still, ever since the company announced that players need to create a PSN account to continue playing, many community members weren’t okay with what they were being forced to do.
A reason for that is that PSN isn’t available in every country, worrying fans about how they’d be able to play the title, but it seems like things aren’t as bad as they may have seemed.
PlayStation Assures Players That Creating Different Region Accounts Is Fine
There’s been all sorts of confusion regarding PlayStation’s conditions that’ve got to be met for players to continue playing Arrowhead’s title, but a complaint that some members of the community had has been addressed by the platform’s support. A player reached out to Sony’s support to ask if it’d be fine for them to create an account in other regions, hoping to confirm if it’d breach the Terms of Service.

To the gamer’s relief, it was confirmed that creating different region accounts is fine and “would not create any issues,” so players in countries where PSN isn’t available can rest easy knowing that their Helldivers 2 journey can go on.
This means that, for example, if one lives in a country that PSN doesn’t support, then creating a US region account would be an acceptable route to play games that require players to be logged in. The region only matters when it comes to physical editions or vouchers, so Helldivers fans can rejoice knowing that there’s a way to get around the PSN problem.
Amid the Helldivers 2 Controversy, Sony Seems to Be Contradicting Its Own Terms of Service
After Sony’s announcement, Steam reportedly started giving refunds to Helldivers 2 players, so to retain its player base, PlayStation is seemingly breaking its own Terms of Service just like Valve’s platform did.
Under the Account Creation, Usage and Security section of the PSN Terms of Service, it states that all of the information provided by a user while creating an account “must be accurate and complete,” continuing that a breach could result in suspension, termination, or restriction.
So creating an account from a different region would technically be classified as false information, making the support’s response peculiar. As Pilestedt and Arrowhead continue to face blame from the community, it remains to be seen how much further Sony’s decision would affect the Helldivers sequel in the future.
Until then, at least there is somewhat of a workaround regarding the PSN availability issue. Has your opinion of the Helldivers sequel changed amid the PSN controversy? Let us know in the comments!
