The PlayStation 5 is the console that is preferred by the majority in 2024, and the numbers prove it. The ninth generation of consoles is another in which Sony has proved its worth and has fortified its place in the market.
Sony’s PS Plus subscription service was popular enough, providing multiplayer gaming, monthly titles, and more, depending on the subscription tie. The service, however, missed the Day One release offering that its arch-nemesis, Microsoft’s Game Pass, was known for. But Sony seems to partially incorporate that offering, with two Day One releases confirmed to be on the service.
Good news for PlayStation fans this April
Per an official announcement on the PS blog, Dave the Diver and Tales of Kenzera: Zau are coming as Day One releases on the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra subscription tiers on April 16 and April 23, respectively.
The news was confirmed on the console brand’s official blog website on April 2. It is an indie title that has won and has been nominated for various awards. Combining the Adventure genre with Management elements, the title offers a unique gameplay loop to enjoy when one wants to destress and relax. The second title, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, is an incredibly anticipated upcoming Metroidvania. It was developed by Surgent Studios and published by Electronic Arts.
Many gamers expressed how they were anticipating the game’s release:
Some even called the game’s inclusion in the service another win for PlayStation as the game would be available to play for more players:
This will undoubtedly make PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users feel elated. Even if they are not looking forward to these two games precisely, there is plenty for them to be happy about because this might mark something significant for PlayStation Plus.
What PS Plus’s confirmed Day One releases mean
While the two titles mentioned above are not exclusives and aren’t high-profile AAA titles by any measure, they still mark a point of significance in the history of PlayStation Plus. The industry has discussed it repeatedly since Xbox Game Pass included Day One releases.
This has also been a significant differentiator in Game Pass’s favor. Getting exclusives and partnered third-party AAA titles for the service is one of a kind. While PlayStation doesn’t seem to replicate this one-to-one, it does seem that the company has begun to realize how well Day One releases can be for the service.
While Sony doesn’t seem to release its AAA exclusives like Insomniac’s Marvel game lineup or any upcoming exclusive as a Day One release, it might just be a matter of time. And it might be that if Sony decides to do that, it might be the final nail in the coffin.
