Ryan Reynolds Wanted The Director To Say Cut

During a cringe scene in the film, where Ryan Reynolds can be seen performing with two supporting actors (a nak*d female and a nak*d male). The actors can be seen very close to each other in a very awkward situation. In a bloopers reel released by the film’s production team, we can see the behind-the-scenes action of this particular shot. Ryan Reynolds doesn’t miss an opportunity to crack a joke while filming the scene.

“Please call cut David, please I’m beggin you,” Reynolds says to the director.

The Change-Up

To Reynolds’ credit, he left no stone unturned when recounting this awkward on-set incident during a 2011 interview with former late-night host Jay Leno. In the scene shared with Olivia Wilde, which involved n*dity, Reynolds admitted that he became so distracted that he momentarily forgot his lines.

Ryan candidly confessed that in that moment, he experienced a strong sense of discomfort akin to that of a teenage boy. In addition to the initial blunder of forgetting his lines, the situation took a further awkward turn when he had to engage in physical contact with his co-star. To put it mildly, the moment escalated beyond mere forgetfulness.

The complications persisted as the scene unfolded. Not only did his memory lapse persist, but when the moment arrived for physical interaction with his co-star, matters took a more problematic turn. Battling nervous perspiration, as he moved in for the contact, a particular adhesive object detached from his co-star and ended up in his hands.

While it found favor among casual moviegoers as a lighthearted production, The Change-Up faced a less enthusiastic reception from critics, garnering a meager 25% approval rating on platforms like Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite the film’s underwhelming performance, Reynolds thoroughly enjoyed his time on set alongside Jason Bateman. He openly acknowledged succumbing to fits of laughter during shooting, attributing it to his co-star’s infectious humor.

The Change-Up can be steamed on TNT and Peacock.
