During her recent interview with Variety, actress Sandra Hüller opened up about taking on the lead role of Sandra Voyter in the legal drama, which has earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Describing the script as “perfect,” the German actress shared that she was immediately enthusiastic about portraying the character.
The Proxima actress also shared her admiration for the film’s cast, singling out Swann Arlaud who plays Sandra’s charismatic lawyer in the movie. Talking about the dynamics between the characters, Hüller also addressed the hinted love affair between them during the interview.
And the Anatomy of a Fall star revealed that there was supposed to be a s*x scene involving these characters. “There was an actual love scene in the film. We could see their affair,” the Oscar-nominated actress said. However, producer Marie-Ange Luciani asked her not to do the scene, suggesting that the inclusion of an intimate scene to depict a romantic relationship felt outdated.
“Please, don’t do it, it’s so ’80s,” she recalled. Hüller echoed this sentiment as she called the idea of depicting romantic relationships with intimate scenes “dull,” and said, “Why do people always have to prove they love each other by going to bed with each other?” Hüller’s exceptional performance in Anatomy of a Fall has earned her a well-deserved nomination for Best Actress at the 2024 Oscars.
