The Super Mario Bros. Movie star Jack Black is sharing updates about a potential sequel to the blockbuster film. Released earlier this year, the adaptation of the Nintendo video game franchise The Super Mario Bros. was a huge box office hit, making $1.36 billion worldwide. However, despite the film’s massive success at the box office, there have been no updates regarding a sequel.
The Bowser actor not only shared an update for the movie’s sequel but also shared his vision for the potential sequel, which might not be as thrilling for fans.
Jack Black Shares His Vision For The Super Mario Bros. Movie Sequel
In a recent conversation on Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, actor Jack Black was asked about any updates on a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The actor who plays Bowser in the movie shared that there has been “radio silence” surrounding the sequel.
“It has been radio silence. The only chatter has been coming from me, and I don’t even know if I’m allowed to chatter,” he shared. While there is no concrete information about the movie’s sequel, Black seemed enthusiastic about reprising his role and even shared what he has in mind for the potential sequel.
“I’ve been chomping at the bit to get back to business. [I’m pitching the title] “Bowser’s Revenge”. I think it should be a full musical, like what Todd Phillips is supposedly doing with Joker 2.”
Starring Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black, The Super Mario Bros. Movie broke several box office records and has become the second highest-grossing movie of the year. However, it is believed that the studio might be taking time for a sequel due to the mixed reviews of the film.

Fans Might Not Like Jack Black’s Vision For The Sequel
While Jack Black seemed excited for The Super Mario Bros. sequel to be a musical possibly following “Bowser’s Revenge,” fans might not share the same opinion as him. Reacting to the news on Twitter, people shared why they don’t think that a musical would be a great idea for the movie’s sequel.

While some straight off shared their dismissal for a musical, others questioned if the movie’s cast, especially Chris Pratt, who voiced Mario, could actually sing. Many also argued that they would rather watch a more adventurous film than a musical one, stating that Black’s idea for the potential sequel sounds even “worse than what the first film was.”
Many also claimed that they are not too excited about Todd Phillips’ making the Joker sequel as a musical and don’t think that they would be excited about this musical sequel as well. So far, there are no official announcements regarding a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
But Nintendo has stated that they are planning more cinematic adaption on their properties. Pratt has also shared that the sequel was on hold due to the Writers’ strike, and official updates for a sequel would be coming soon. There have also been talks about respective spin-offs for Luigi, Donkey Kong, and Princess Peaches.
