Krafton’s free-to-play battle royale PUBG was released back in 2017 and swiftly took the top spot in the battle royale titles list as players swarmed to play the game. The game has recorded its highest player count at 3.24 million, which is enough to show the game’s popularity and player base.
However, with the evolving battle royale genre and new titles like Fortnite dominating the scene, the once-popular title has been almost forgotten. The developer has now come up with a plan to compete with now-behemoth shooter titles by enticing its lost players with nostalgic additions.
PUBG Is Bringing Back the Good Old Early Access Days
PUBG was the most popular battle royale title out there, but the release of titles like Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Apex Legends hurt the game, and it lost the charm it once had. Krafton has now announced that it is bringing back the original Erangel map in PUBG as the game is “returning to its roots” and will be coming alongside the upcoming 29.2 update.
The original Erangel map is the first-ever battleground in the game and is made to “evoke nostalgia for players who remember the early access days.” The classic map will bring back the original concept and atmosphere that were present during the first release and will retain the currently available gameplay elements for a “unique old-school experience.”
The Erangel classic map will be available for players to experience in normal matches for a limited time. The map launches on May 14 for PC players and will be available to play until May 28; players on consoles will be able to enjoy the nostalgic experience from May 23 to June 6. The Erangel Classic map will replace the current Erangel map in Normal Matches during this period.
Erangel Classic Will Come With Nostalgic Features of the Game
Several iconic elements and features of the original Erangel map will be implemented in Erangel Classic that made the map so loved by the players. The foggy and rainy weather will be back with the graphics of the old days. The world map and minimap from the original PUBG will also return.
The bench weapons that were available on the starting island will be reinstated in Erangel Classic, and players will be able to grab them. Players will experience the vintage match start timer and font of the early days of the game.
The gun will also have changes, and the gunplay will also be tweaked to give players the feel of the early access days. The weapon recoil for almost all weapons will be reduced, and Tommy Gun will also return in the care package.
Moreover, knocking enemies down will also take extra time for players, and there will also be some clothes and helmets on the ground that they can equip. Krafton has said that it wants to give players the feel of the early days and take them on a nostalgic journey for a couple of weeks.
