The upcoming film, Gladiator 2, serves as a follow-up to Ridley Scott’s 2000 blockbuster Gladiator, which earned an Oscar. The original movie told the story of Maximus, a former general turned slave (played by Russell Crowe), who fights in the gladiator arena in the Roman Empire while seeking vengeance for the tragic murder of his family.

Pedro Pascal Has Hailed the “impressiveGladiator 2 Set

Pedro Pascal is full of praise for the set of the highly-anticipated sequel, Gladiator 2. The star commended the director, Ridley Scott, for his remarkable vision and the impressive scale of the project during an interview with Vanity Fair. Pascal highlighted Scott’s meticulous attention to detail, expressing his admiration for the director’s ability to bring the envisioned world to life on set.

I’ve been a part of big sets where the identity of the project, in a sense, is its size—and still, I have not been on a set as impressive as Gladiator’s.”

Ridley [Scott] leaves very little to the imagination in the most old-fashioned sense. All the players and pieces are there on the day, and suddenly the expected challenge of believing yourself as a powerful person in the era of the Roman Empire is evaporated.

The highly anticipated sequel, announced in 2018, faced production delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strike but finally wrapped up filming in January 2024. Excitement for the movie remains strong, fueled by the star-studded cast including Pascal, Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and the return of Connie Nielsen.

The Executives Are Already Impressed with Gladiator 2 Footage

The excitement among industry executives is palpable as they’ve had a sneak peek at Ridley Scott‘s latest work on Gladiator 2. The sequel to the beloved classic, Gladiator, has generated quite a buzz, with insiders suggesting that it’s shaping up to be a major cinematic event.

Ridley Scott shared that he has completed nearly 85% of Gladiator 2 despite facing a setback due to a strike that cost him four months. In an interview with IndieWire, Scott expressed his frustration:

I’ve now finished almost 85 percent of Gladiator [2]. We were interrupted by the strike, so I lost four months. Otherwise, right now I’d be mixing it. I went back about four weeks ago after the strike and nearly finished before Christmas, and I’ve got to go back 10 days to finish. It’s a real pain.”

According to Deadline, executives have been blown away by the edited footage they’ve seen. The report paints a promising picture for the sequel, hinting at potential critical acclaim and awards recognition, just like the original.

Gladiator 2 is set to hit theaters on November 22nd. The original Gladiator is now available for streaming on Paramount+.
