Elden Ring took the world by storm when it launched two years ago and won various awards from different shows and celebrations of gaming, it has been the standard for what a true soulslike game should be, and a few years later, Team Ninja surprised the world with their take on an open world soulslike game set in Japan with Rise of the Ronin.
Great games inspire other great games, Rise of the Ronin is Team Ninja’s version of copying one’s assignment and making it better while also honoring them. Not a lot of people are fans of the genre and its difficult nature but managed to gain a mass following over the years with FromSoftware pioneering the way.
Elden Ring Ran So Rise Of The Ronin Could Fly… Literally
One of the things that Elden Ring perfected aside from combat is being able to play with your friends. An unlikely circumstance given FromSoftware’s pride in developing hard games that players must face alone, it is far more bearable to do so with friends. Both games feature multiplayer that can make each player’s experience far more memorable and wholesome.
Team Ninja also managed to do something FromSoftware CEO and director Hidetaka Miyazaki has struggled to implement for quite some time which is to add a difficulty setting. In that way alone, it has shown the developers’ initiative to do something that was considered a deviation from the genre. Soulslike games are meant to be difficult but not impossible, however, not everyone has the skills, time, and patience to commit, and being able to play at their own pace will make them appreciate the game even more.
Elden Ring Is The Gold Standard For Soulslike Games
FromSoftware games pioneered the Soulslike genre and singlehandedly made them popular, and fans are always excited to see what’s next and what additions the developers can bring. Co-op is a feature that can improve or hamper someone’s gaming progress but in a good way. Players can now work and lose together which will boost their morale even more.
The future of Elden Ring is looking bright with the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC which is FromSoftware’s largest expansion yet that can rival the greatness of the base game. Miyazaki also shared that some questions that were left unanswered from the base game will be expanded upon with this DLC.
The Soulslike genre has elevated gaming in many ways, it has encouraged players to try harder rather than quit and highlights the significance of being cautious in battle. Elden Ring and Rise of the Ronin did all of that and then some. Being able to play highly complicated games with friends for allies is a massive leap from the genre’s lone-wolf idea and the genre also shows how developers are bold enough to adapt modern gaming features in their traditional formula.
