The success of Elden Ring and other FromSoftware games has been the inspiration for several titles since their release. Rise of the Ronin, the latest offering from Team Ninja, looks like it will be borrowing many elements from this game and could be the Soulslike exclusive PlayStation needs.
The previous trailer gave us a glimpse at some of the world and gameplay mechanics, but now we have a new combat trailer showcasing how we will be taking down foes in feudal Japan. If gamers were hoping for a more casual experience, they may want to look elsewhere.
Rise of the Ronin Combat Vignette Showcases Weapons and Tactics Players can Employ
The Combat Vignette trailer was uploaded to the PlayStation YouTube channel a little while ago. The fact that it has less than 150,000 views is surprising given the amount of information it reveals in the short 2 minutes. While it was a rolling montage of clips, it still gave us a good understanding of how weapons will factor into the gameplay.
The trailer began with close combat weapons: the katana, spear, and bayonet. A leak has already revealed there will be several weapon types in the game, ensuring variety for players to customize their attacks. Players will also be able to switch between combat styles to deal with different types of enemies.
The ranged combat options included a bow, a handgun, the grappling hook, and what looks like an ancient flamethrower! We also saw that the player can shoot fire projectiles while using the glider to rain damage from above. The bow is going to be the stealthy option, while the grappling hook can be used to bring enemies closer to the player, to toss explosive items, and to perform stealth takedowns.
The trailer’s final segment showed how these items can be used in tandem to chain attacks into combos. The combat overall looks quite fluid and fast-paced. This is in line with the comments from the developers, who stated they want to ensure the action is at the forefront of the game’s experience.
Rise of the Ronin Could Feature Elden Ring-Like Combat Variation
Elden Ring and Rise of the Ronin are both open-world action RPGs that allow the player to choose their mode of attack. In the trailer, we saw that players can adopt a stealthy approach or just blow stuff up and rack up bodies. The developers have also stated they want to make this game more accessible to people, just like FromSoftware intended with Elden Ring.
Rise of the Ronin will feature three difficulty options, allowing players to choose how intense they wish to make the experience. The game is also going to feature online co-op, so players can explore the world with their friends.
If handled correctly, Rise of the Ronin could become PlayStation’s very own Elden Ring, but this is Team Ninja’s first-ever open-world game, so it remains to be seen if they deliver.
