Rise of the Ronin‘s release is due next month, and players are already getting to learn a lot about Japan’s history through behind-the-scenes videos available on YouTube. Now, they get to learn a couple of features about the game too.
The setting will show the final years of the Edo period, which spanned from 1603 to 1868. Moreover, players will have in-game choices that affect the outcome of the story.
The game’s trailer was revealed during PlayStation’s State of the Play event in September 2022, showing off Japan in 1863. Many fans have already believe it is set to take the samurai gauntlet from titles like Ghost of Tsushima.
There’s still a month before it arrives, but gamers can expect the sleuths of the internet to try to put any information together to provide a better picture of this upcoming title.
It Looks Like Only Friendship Has Scope Here
Among the frequently asked questions associated with the game is whether it will be multiplayer or not. To the pleasure of many, there will be a co-op mode, where up to four players can concurrently play the game. However, there won’t be a PvP option to test out the might of your friends.
With regards to the game’s protagonist, users will have the freedom to create one, similar to Elden Ring, Fallout 4, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and more. And even a recent Ubisoft game, Skull and Bones, featured it as well. Moreover, the game will have a large open-world players can traverse either on foot or through the air using gliders.
The creators had to do a lot of research for the game’s environment, given that the story takes place in the 19th century. From the culture of the time, to the designs resonating with the period, these are pivotal considerations when developing an immersive experience for a particular era.
Rise of the Ronin Appears to be Jam-Packed With Features
Unlike other samurai games by Team Ninja, Rise of the Ronin is the first attempt at an an open-world setting. Interestingly, it could also be the reason for the game’s success or failure, when it finally arrives.
Apart from the Ninja Gained series, Team Ninja’s titles, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Nioh 2, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin have shared game mechanics somewhat similar to those in the Soulslike genre.
The available videos on YouTube showcase that the same might be the case for this game, especially with context to combat system. For now, it can only be said based on the trailers and behind-the-scenes videos that the game will be an absolute stunner. Hopefully, it will not prove the audience wrong when they finally get to experience 19th-century Japan.
