During their divorce proceedings, Hightower brought up a 2004 prenuptial agreement that entitled her to half of De Niro’s earnings from the day they were together to the day of their split. She claimed they are marital assets and must be split evenly but the Appellate Division ruled in 2021 that Hightower’s arguments are invalid as De Niro’s earnings during that period are his separate property. This was indeed a big win for De Niro, but Hightower didn’t walk away empty-handed.

Actor Robert De Niro and Grace Hightower got separated in 2018 after being together for over 20 years. Due to trouble in their marriage in the early 2000s, Hightower signed a prenuptial agreement with De Niro, and during their divorce proceedings, Hightower brought this up as it claimed that she was entitled to half of De Niro’s earnings that he earned during their relationship.

As per Page Six, the Appellate Division shut down Hightower’s arguments in 2021 claiming that, “The husband’s income earned during the marriage and other business assets acquired during that time are his separate property.” So, Hightower didn’t get anything from De Niro’s earnings.

It wasn’t a big loss for Hightower as the prenup stated that the pair should sell the $20 million home they lived in together and put $6 million toward buying a home of her choice that she could live in with their two kids, Elliot and Helen.

Not just that, De Niro was ordered to pay Hightower $1 million a year in alimony until she remarries or one of them dies. The actor met Hightower in 1987 while she was working at the Mr. Chow restaurant in London. In June 1997, De Niro and Hightower officially tied the knot in a private wedding at their home in Marbletown, New York in the presence of 11 people, including Harvey Keitel and Joe Pesci.
