Legendary actor Robert De Niro and Grace Hightower got separated in 2018 after being together for more than 20 years. The two got married in 1997 but got separated in 1999, however, their divorce was never finalized and they reconciled. In 2018, however, they decided to split for good.
During their divorce proceedings, Hightower brought up a 2004 prenuptial agreement that entitled her to half of De Niro’s earnings from the day they were together to the day of their split. She claimed they are marital assets and must be split evenly but the Appellate Division ruled in 2021 that Hightower’s arguments are invalid as De Niro’s earnings during that period are his separate property. This was indeed a big win for De Niro, but Hightower didn’t walk away empty-handed.
