But many fans of the genre believe that after the second instalment in the main series, James Wan started to lack that certain quality of creating genuinely terrifying films with numerous spin-offs and sequels.

This is where Rober Eggers comes in, announcing that his upcoming horror film Nosferatu will bring terror back into the genre tenfold.

In a recent issue of the 2024 Preview edition of Empire MagazineThe Lighthouse director talked about how he believed that his film would be able to bring that magic back into the Gothic era with this horror story. Since there haven’t been many Gothic Horror stories in recent times, Eggers is confident that his offering would prove to be monumental in the sub-genre.

Here, the director also mentioned how he has witnessed many horror films recently that have e failed to live up to people’s expectations, which may be seen as a slight dig by him at Wan. He said:

“Yeah, it’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie, And I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.”

With the first look at the upcoming movie now out, people are already getting excited about what the film might have in store for us.

While this may be a remake of the original 1922 film of the same name, the upcoming Nosferatu aims to bring that familiar feeling of terror with newfound intensity.

The film will focus on Ellen Hutter, the wife of Thomas Hutter, who is sent by his master to the estate of Count Orlok in 19th-century Germany to finalize a deal he made with him. But when Thomas realizes that The Count is actually after his wife, he decides to take his leave. However, all hell breaks loose when Orlok shows his true colors to the couple.
