One of the biggest avenues of superhero entertainment might still be the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one of the most popular and hyped-up has to go to Prime Video’s shows like Invincible and The Boys, which has captured the public eye and glued them to their platform.

At the moment, the animated series created by Robert Kirkman is getting a lot of love since it just restarted airing on the streaming platform after leaving the audience on a cliffhanger last year.

As per the original plan of the showrunner, this series would’ve gone on for at most eight seasons until its inevitable conclusion. But now, according to Kirkman’s comments, it seems like the show is set to go on for a lot longer than what was planned, which could bring ruin to it like what happened with his other show The Walking Dead.

Despite the MCU and the newly developing DCU might be looked at by the fandom with exhaustion due to Superhero Fatigue that has taken over cinema, Prime Video basks in the glory of their superhero titles like The Boys and Invincible.

But with the showrunner of the latter series Robert Kirkman‘s past comments about the future of the show might end up facing the same treatment that its big screen counterparts are facing at the moment.

In a past interview with Collider, the artist and showrunner talked about the future of the series, which stars Steven Yeun as the titular protagonist. He said that he originally planned to have eight seasons of the show at max. But his comments during the interview suggested that he plans to continue the show even beyond the source materials from the comics. He said:

“I’ve got a rough road map for the whole thing from the beginning. So, that hasn’t really changed. We don’t have anything to announce yet for anything past Season 3, but we’re very hopeful that we’ll get to go for a good long while. I mean, I’m thinking like 100 seasons.”

While as he stated, nothing is set in store past Season 3 at the moment, seeing Kirkman’s track record with The Walking Dead, which was a staggering 11 seasons with the main story and is still continuing, isn’t looking too great for the future of his animated series.

While the zombie apocalypse drama series was and is a good show, the expansion and stretching of the story in every way made keeping up with it unbelievably exhausting, which led to its downfall in the public eye. And if Invincible is to follow the same route, then we have a lot to worry about.

While the last episode of the second season is still set to be aired soon, we can already guess some things that we will be able to witness in the coming time in the series.

As the introduction and infiltration into the ranks of the Viltrumites are already underway by Allen the Alien, fans eagerly await some much-needed revelations. While Season 3 is confirmed, nothing concrete can be said about it as well apart from the fact that along with the narrative being followed, Kirkman is also open to crossovers with other shows, most notably, a crossover with Prime Video’s other superhit series The Boys.
