Roman Reigns recently ended his ‘reign’ as the Undisputed WWE champion at WrestleMania XL after being defeated by Cody Rhodes. Reigns held the title for 1316 days, making it among the longest in WWE history. Despite his recent loss, fans have celebrated the superstar’s reign and deemed him one of the best of the current WWE era.
Reigns has been part of many iconic WWE groups, including the Shield and now the Bloodline. Throughout the years, the superstar has faced many other WWE stars and even got betrayed by his own teammates, who he thought supported him. Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, and Jey Uso have infamously gone against the Tribal Chief over the years.
These WWE Superstars Shockingly Turned on Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns has come a way long way in the WWE. From a decent rise in his early days to becoming a member of the Shield and most popularly being one of the longest WWE champions, The Tribal Chief has already had an illustrious WWE career that many would die for. However, his road to becoming one of the best was not easy, as some of his allies did not agree with his approach.
His tenure in The Shield and The Bloodline has seen some trials and tribulations, with some members attacking him behind his back and betraying him at the end. These betrayals became big headlines as they were unexpected and shocking. Here are some of the most infamous instances where Reigns’ allies went against him,
1. Seth Rollins
The longest-running feud involving Roman Reigns is his constant rivalry with Seth Rollins since the latter’s betrayal when they were a part of The Shield. Along with Dean Ambrose, the trio was one of the most feared factions of the WWE, defeating others and having a strong impression on audiences.
However, Rollins shocked Reigns and the audience when he hit Reigns with a steel chair behind his back and betrayed him in 2014 (via Sportster). Since then, the two have been feuding, and they hit home with a richly satisfying payoff to their feud in WrestleMania XL. Rollins manipulating Reigns wearing a Shield costume, harkening back to his betrayal, became the perfect factor for Reigns’ downfall.
2. Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn was a former member of the Bloodline as an Honorary Uce back in 2022 with Roman Reigns as the de-facto leader of the group. Zayn proved his loyalty to the group during the 2022 Survivor Series, playing a pivotal role in the group’s match against Kevin Owens and Drew McIntyre. He even went to the point of wreaking havoc on his former friend Owens to gain their trust.
However, Reigns started to question Zayn’s loyalty to the group after losing a tag team match against Owens and John Cena. Zayn’s true intentions came to light at the 2023 Royal Rumble, where he chose to save Owens when he was ordered to hit him with a chair by Reigns (via Sportster). Similar to Rollins, Zayn hit Reigns behind his back with the chair, officially ending his tenure in the Bloodline.
3. The Usos
Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso were part of the original members of the Bloodline alongside Roman Reigns back in 2021, with Solo Sikoa joining in 2022. Jimmy Uso betrayed Reigns during the WWE Night of Champions 2023 match where Reigns and Sikoa were up against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
Jey Uso was left to choose between his brother and Reigns after that. He ultimately chose to betray the Bloodline (via Bleacher Report) and sided with Jimmy by attacking Reigns at Smackdown. Jey also helped Cody Rhodes recently in his WrestleMania victory against the Bloodline.
Jimmy rejoined the group in September of 2023. Following his defeat at WrestleMania XL at the hands of Jey and the overall embarrassment of the Bloodline at the event, he was kicked out of the group (via Wrestling Noticias) very recently and replaced by WWE legend Haku’s son Tama Tonga.
