The game in question is BioShock, and with a movie adaptation already in the works, it would be interesting to know if the actor would still be interested should an opportunity arise. The closest anyone has brought the actor to a game is on Starfield, as players have recreated the actor thanks to the game’s heavy character customization options.

An email uncovered on WikiLeaks reveals Feldman had contacted Pascal and asked if Sony Pictures Entertainment [SPE] was considering making a BioShock movie, and that Gosling was quite interested.

Ryan asked me to as[k] you if you are really doing a BioShock movie. Not sure exactly which one he is referring to, but I told him I would ask.

The email was dated July 16, 2014, and was addressed to Pascal’s SPE email address. Fast forward eight years, and Netflix started developing a live-action movie in 2022, but the plans were delayed, according to the last update given by screenwriter Michael Green.

The SAG-AFTRA strikes affected a lot of movies and TV series, including the live-action BioShock project on Netflix. Now that the strike has been called off, Green has confirmed that the movie is indeed progressing.

Green reported that Netflix had called on him to go ahead with the initial draft, and Green himself stated that the entire team is quite optimistic about the game and that he will have an update soon. Once the script is finalized, there will be cast finalizations, and whether or not Ryan Gosling is still interested in the project would be something to keep an eye on.

Gosling Also Linked With Comic Book Adaptation

The Barbie actor was also linked with a reboot of Ghostrider, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was himself asked about this back in 2022. Feige had then revealed his interest in and love for the actor, and he would have loved to bring him to the MCU in some form.

Feige also revealed how Gosling dressing up as Ken on Venice Beach, referring to the shooting of his role in the Barbie movie, gets “more press than giant movies.“. Several fan art pieces of Gosling as Ghostrider also started circulating, which were highly praised by his fans.

As for the BioShock interest shown by Gosling, back when the news leaked, fans were quite interested in seeing it come to life. A Reddit discussion post received several comments in favor of the actor being involved in the movie.

Gosling would go on to star in La La Land a couple of years later, in 2016, winning the Best Actor award at the Academy Awards and BAFTA Awards. His role in last year’s movie Barbie is also on course to win him more accolades. It would be interesting to see the cast announcement for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of BioShock, whenever that happens.
