Duos are an important part of Hollywood. Chemistry is something that can rarely be fabricated, so when two actors find their on-screen dynamic to be great, they end up sticking to it. Over type time, they end up getting close to each other in real life as well.
This exact phenomenon has led to iconic on-screen pairs like Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, and finally, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.
There is one pair, however, that remains iconic to this date. Two impeccably talented actors who only add to each other’s screen presence; Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy. The pair have worked together multiple times, with each getting better and better. Their projects together never miss and their dynamic is credited for it.
Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy Have Worked Together Many Times
After Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy has established himself as one of the most talented actors of all time. Having recently won an Oscar for the role, as well as receiving the recognition he deserves, he has become a force to be reckoned with. Tom Hardy is no different, knowing how to completely immerse himself into the roles he plays. His versatility as an actor is commendable and he shows it through every character that he plays.
On their own, Murphy and Hardy are two of the most talented actors in Hollywood. When they are together, their dynamic is almost envious. They have worked together four times in their career. Interestingly enough, both the actors have quite a close relationship with Christopher Nolan. So, they have worked with him, together, three times; in Inception, Dunkirk, and The Dark Knight Rises.
Additionally, they were both a part of Peaky Blinders. Murphy played the protagonist, Tommy Shelby, whereas Hardy played the role of Alfie Solomons.
On-Screen and Off-Screen Chemistry
While many know from interviews that the pair are quite fond of each other and get along very well, it is important to also note how their respect for each other reflects in their on-screen interactions.
In Inception, Cillian Murphy played Fisher, whereas Tom Hardy played Eames. Both portrayed the roles of supporting characters so there wasn’t much focus on them, and unfortunately, interaction between them was minimal. The same was the case for The Dark Knight Rises and Dunkirk. However, it was Peaky Blinders that showed their dynamic the best.
Alfie and Tommy have quite a complicated relationship with each other. Playing games with each other at every turn, as though a dance that they both know all too well, their interactions are some of the most interesting in the series. Neither trusts the other. However, they have a sense of understanding that even they do not get.
This sort of dynamic is difficult to portray, regardless of how talented the actors are. It is safe to say that such complexities can be credited to the genius of Murphy and Hardy, as well as the chemistry they have with each other.
