Marvel fans cannot contain their excitement as Hugh Jackman is all set to return as James “Logan” Howlett / Wolverine in the upcoming MCU movie Deadpool & Wolverine, alongside Ryan Reynolds. The film, which is a sequel to Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018), has been creating a lot of waves on social media, mainly because of Jackman’s return, but what changed his mind?
In the past, Jackman was firm that he was done with the role but his good friend, actor Ryan Reynolds, who plays Wade Wilson / Deadpool in the movie, was keen on bringing him back as Wolverine. Reynolds once revealed that he is very close to leaking Jackman’s personal cell phone number online to convince him to play Wolverine again. This blackmail trick may have worked as Jackman’s officially back.
Ryan Reynolds threatened to post Hugh Jackman’s cell phone number online
In 2018, MTV News caught up with Ryan Reynolds to talk about Deadpool 2. During the conversation, Reynolds explained that he would love to see Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine teaming up with Deadpool. However, since Jackman was not ready to return as Wolverine, he threatened to post Jackman’s cell phone number online,
“I would love to see a Deadpool, Wolverine movie someday. But Hugh – according to Hugh, hung up the claws. So I’m about this close to putting his cell phone number online.”
2017’s Logan was the last time Hugh Jackman played James “Logan” Howlett / Wolverine on the big screen and now, almost 7 years later, it seems like Reynolds’ threat has worked as Jackman will has finally joined the MCU.
Is Marvel trying to replace Hugh Jackman?
The trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine was dropped recently and some fans have made an interesting observation. They claim that the man in a white tuxedo who looks like Jackman in the trailer was Patch, a potential variant of Logan. Fans believe that this character will be played by another actor in the future, replacing Jackman.

Jackman hasn’t even made his MCU debut yet and there are rumors about his replacement already. Some theories claim that this will be Marvel’s way of testing out if any other star is fit for the role but no one else has the experience. Jackman is certainly perfect for this role as he also held the Guinness World Record for “longest career as a live-action Marvel character” until 2022 for his work as Wolverine in the X-Men film series (2000–2017).
