Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Costed Less Than 3 Episodes of This MCU TV Show

The 2016 action-comedy movie by Tim Miller, Deadpool, is one of the most loved movies of Marvel. The movie features Ryan Reynolds as the protagonist and managed to collect around 783 million US dollars worldwide. What’s more interesting is the fact that the movie’s budget was merely 58 million US dollars. The primary reason behind such a low budget is Deadpool’s R-rating.

The movie’s R-rating made Fox uncertain of its reception, and hence, producers managed to pull the film off for only $58 million. Reynolds himself was in favor of utilizing as little money as possible because, according to him, too much time and capital destroys the creativity behind a production.

It is interesting to note that Marvel’s 2023 television series Secret Invasion had a budget of a whopping $212 million (via Forbes), and it still fell short of meeting the expectations. Each episode of the series costs nearly $35 million (according to this Reddit post) so the cost of the first three episodes alone is nearly twice the budget of Deadpool. The reason behind Secret Invasion’s bad performance and low viewership is that the show killed too many characters at the wrong time to race the story.

Tim Miller’s Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds, was a wholesome treat to the fans of the superhero franchise. The actors and producers stayed loyal to the comic book and didn’t experiment much in greed of commercial perks. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese did a fantastic job as screenwriters. Also, Reynolds himself did quite a commendable job in the marketing sector for the movie.

However, Secret Invasion has one too many flaws that attracted much negative criticism. The show had a hasty storyline that compromised with the creativity. The show killed off the wrong characters at inconvenient times. These particular reasons led to a sharp decline in the viewership of MCU fans.

That being said, while Deadpool and Deadpool 2 had production budgets of $58 million and $110 million respectively Deadpool 3 reportedly has a budget of $250 million minus the advertising and print costs (via The Hollywood Sunday). The stakes are high this time so hopefully, the movie will be able to earn enough in worldwide gross upon release.

Bringing Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool’s success story back, the superhero got a lot of love and acknowledgment from the audiences, which has led to another delightful news. Deadpool 3 is going to hit the theaters on July 26, 2024. The movie welcomes back our beloved Hugh Jackman as Wolverine too.
