The movie’s director, Michael Bay, was already a pro at handling, courtesy of his past on-set experiences. Johansson, who was just 19 back then, didn’t want to wear a cheap a*s bra to the bed as she wanted her love scene with Ewan McGregor to be nothing but perfect.

Michael Bay was called to Scarlett Johansson’s trailer. The director revealed that he was prepared to have a conversation, he was “tired of having with many actors.” The Texas Chainsaw Massacre director famously said:

“The famous [story is the] director gets called to the actress’s trailer before she is called to do the love scene. How many times have I had to say, ‘Come on, come out. You look beautiful,’ etc. And I get a call from the assistant director. ‘She needs to see you.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, god. Here we go.’”

While most stars object to onscreen n*dity, it was exactly the opposite for Johansson, who wanted to walk to the bed naked. Michael Bay also revealed that Scarlett Johansson was adamant to not come out of her trailer until the director met her demands.

Evan McGregor was impressed by how the 19-year-old Johansson handled being on Michael Bay’s set. The actor expressed his admiration for the Avengers star, stating “She’s together and wise about the whole thing,” also referring to her as “quite a tough cookie.”

The Island, however, grossed $162.9 million worldwide and was considered a box office bomb, mostly condemned for its poor publicity. Edward Jay Epstein of Slate criticized the movie, expressing that it wasn’t the directing, acting, or the story that failed, what truly failed was the marketing campaign.

Scarlett Johansson Couldn’t Handle A Cheap A*s Bra!

Scarlett Johansson has continued to express some strong opinions on her love scene with Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor in The Island. She previously narrated that McGregor kissed like a 16-year-old schoolboy.

The actress, who was much younger than McGregor during the 2005 film, explained why she wanted to walk out naked:

“I’m not [expletive] wearing this bra! This cheap-ass bra! OK? I’m going naked. Who wakes up wearing a bra? It doesn’t happen.”

Michael Bay, on the other hand, expressed:

“I’m ready to do Ewan and her in her love scene and she’s not going to come out. I knock on the trailer of her door. ‘Scarlett?’ ‘Yes?’ The door opens.

You can’t go naked. The movie has to be PG-13.’”

The actress has been vocal about her pain of being “groomed and highly sexualized” in her early career. But again, she has continued to offer unconditional support to the ever-controversial Woody Allen, who once described a young Johansson as “sexually radioactive” in his memoir.

The Island (2005) is available for streaming on Netflix.
