The production and filming of a lot of media franchises were affected last year due to the writers’ strike and after almost a year-long struggle, SAG-AFTRA had reached a deal with the studios recently and now everything is back on track. Severance was also one of the series that was affected by these strikes but as Ben Stiller recently revealed, the filming of season 2 of the series is finally back on.

Severance is a science fiction thriller series that follows the life of Mark Scout portrayed by Adam Scott. Scout is a team leader at a company called Lumon Industries which uses a procedure called Severance to segregate its employees’ memories into when they are at work and when they are not at work. They cannot remember their life outside of work when they are working and vice versa.
Season 1 of Severance was a massive critical success when it was first released in February 2022 and in April of that year, the series was renewed for a 2nd season. However, due to the writers’ strike last year, the filming and production of the series was indefinitely halted.

That was until the director of the series, Ben Stiller decided to take it to his X account (formerly Twitter) and posted a picture from the filming of season 2 of Severance where Adam Scott can be seen running through the hallways of Lumon Industries.
The 2nd season of Severance will have a ton of new characters
As is evident from Ben Stiller’s post, Adam Scott will be reprising his role as Mark Scout in season 2 of the series. We will also be seeing a lot of new characters in the upcoming season of the series as revealed by a lot of sources. According to Variety, Severance has cast Gwendoline Christie, Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Merrit Wever, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannante, John Noble, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. They will be joining alongside the original cast of Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Britt Lower, and Zach Cherry.
Ben Stiller also had an interview back in 2022 with Variety where he revealed what could the fans expect from season 2 of the series. He said,
“I think that the biggest thing is how to maintain all those things in terms of the feeling of the show, while at the same time expanding the world since the end of the last episode. We’ve brought Mark and Irving and Helly to the surface, and I think those are storylines that people are going to be interested in. So, it’s going to be figuring out that balance.”
As Severance has just started production, it is very tough to predict when will the filming of the series be finished. Therefore, the release date for the new season of the series still remains a mystery.
Season 1 of Severance is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
