Ever since Marvel Studios revealed what the next set of films in the MCU will be, speculations have been rife as to which characters might be waiting in the wings to make their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chief among these characters is a slew of antagonists, especially Latvaria’s scientist-sorcerer-monarch, Doctor Doom.
There is a lot of speculation about who could play the Fantastic Four villain, who is expected to be the next big villain in the MCU, similar to Loki. Among the top choices for the character is Cillian Murphy of Oppenheimer fame, but there seems to be one actor Marvel cannot afford to overlook when it comes to a comic-accurate Doom.

Connor Swindells is perfect for the role of Doctor Doom
While Barbie might not be the right frame of reference for a Doctor Doom, Swindell has more than proven himself to be a great actor in Sex Education. However, it needs to be more than acting chops that make an actor worthy of a role, there needs to be some precedent of the artist portraying similar roles for fans to consider them a good choice.
Swindells as Doctor Doom will stay true to the character’s Romani heritage, given that the actor is of Romani descent from his mother’s side. The actor has also proven himself to be quite the dramatic actor, allowing him to embody the intensity that has to be present in an actor portraying Doctor Doom, by starring in films and series like The Vanishing, Barbarians, SAS: Rogue Heroes and Vigil.
The actor is around 27, making him the right age for sticking around for a while, if a corresponding Reed Richards is cast in the same age range, allowing both the artists to carry the franchise, as will be required of their characters.
Where can Doctor Doom make his appearance?
There are a lot of rumours regarding where Doctor Doom might appear in the MCU. Currently, there are two competing rumours, pointing towards who the villain would be in the Fantastic Four film. Doctor Doom is one candidate, and Galactus is the other. If Doctor Doom is to be the next big villain of the MCU, teasing him from the get-go might be the studio’s priority.
While the character can make a full-fledged appearance in the Fantastic Four film, the audience must be familiar with him and his back story before he decides to take over the world in Avengers 5 or Secret Wars. Captain America: Brave New World would be a perfect entry point for Doom, given that he is the monarch of the kingdom of Latvaria. The blueprint of his introduction could follow the same beats as Black Panther, given how important the character is to world politics in the MCU. Other places where the character could pop up are Thunderbolts, perhaps as a target to dismantle before the Fantastic Four are introduced.
